I stumbled on this little gem right off Il Campo and decided to give it a try. It was absolutely fascinating. 200 original torture machines and implements with excellent descriptions of when, how and where they were used, and for what types of crimes or interrogations. Take time to read about them, as just looking doesn't tell the whole story.... More

OK place to visit if you want to scare the daylights out of your kids. It's hard not to be fascinated by the history of the "inhumane"

Interesting museum. Vast array of human torture mechanisms. You can browse for 10 mins or read all the interesting stories from the centuries past, takes a good hour or more to see and read everything. The info is in english as well😆. Not spooky but a little confronting.

Brilliant way to spend an hour or so and makes a nice change from wandering round cathedrals and museums in Italy. Really fascinating and disturbing at the same time. Not done cheesily either, just good old fashioned imagination required here!

Very interesting place, all very authentic and thrilling, not fancy, no frightening music or lights, just the place itself with all the torture instruments and detailed explanations. After a while one realizes it all happened there at the place. And that all those instruments were actually used. And this is very disturbing, yet fascinating. The lady at the entrance was... More

We were looking for something unique to see while in Siena and this fit the bill. Good balance between descriptions and pictures. Not overwhelming but still disturbing. Kids found it fascinating as did I. Glad we went.

Not a place for young children. The museum curator was very helpful and could share quite a bit of information regarding exhibits and history.

We went to Siena the day before the Palio in the middle of a heat wave. My son saw the sign and insisted we visit. The museum is small but has an extensive collection of torture devices with explanations for how they were used (and are still used). And inside, the air was blessedly cool! The whole visit didn't take... More

Our son spotted the museum and wanted to go. My thought was that it may be too much for a young child, but I was wrong. The museum provides enough information to show what happened but not so much as to traumatize. The experience was fun and sobering at the same time. Children can enjoy enjoy it and learn a... More
