Part of our 6 part tour pass. I wish we could have been able to explore more, but they didnt allow access below ground level - plenty of viewing areas through the floors and items that they brought up that were uncovered. as it was part of the all in ticket price, it was a nice extra.

This was one of my favorite places in Siena and it's part of the cathedral complex, so a combination ticket gets you in. The crypt was buried and hidden for 700 years and was unexpectedly discovered 20 years ago. The walls are covered with very early Medieval frescoes of biblical scenes dating from the 1200's amazingly preserved for being buried with rubble for so long. I loved it, so will you!

The crypt is located on the backside of the Duomo. Buy a ticket for the Duomo, the crypt and the museum at the ticket office. All are worth spending time in. The crypt will give you a great idea of what it takes to build a massive building like this. Well narrated self guided tour. Engineers will love it.

The crypt under the cathedral was revield not a long time ago. The place is amazing, full of long forgotten wall paintings. The best thing about the crypt is the ongoing excavations.

The "Cripta" of the Siena Cathedral is considered "one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the past twenty years". Discovered by chance in the late 90s while archaeologists were working on other findings, the crypt isn't a real crypt but in fact the back entrance to the Roman cathedral that stood here before the current cathedral was built in the middle ages. The Crypt is beautifully arranged: frescoes in a cycle of paintings executed by a series of artists active in Siena during the second half of the XIII century, including Guido da Siena, Dietisalvi di Speme, Guido di Graziano and Rinaldo da Siena. The uncovered fundaments of the previous cathedral, visible through windows in the floor, so deep I thought I would loose my balance. Definitely worth a visit. The Crypt is part of the package one can buy for visiting the Duomo, the Museum and the Crypt. € 12.00 from March 1 to October 31 and € 8.00 from 1 November to 28 February, the Opa Si Pass itinerary takes about two hours to complete, and is valid for three consecutive days from its issue date.
Opening hours: 1 march – 2 november 10:30 – 19:00

It's a part of the ticket of the cathedral visit. It doen't cost extra so the fresco's are really worth visiting.

We visited with a personal guide which made the visit all the more rich and interesting. Our guide was able to explain in great detail the key highlights, including frescoes, sculptures.

We recommend finding a good local guide to accompany you on a tour of Siena’s attractions.

Christian art - paintings, statues, glass and colors
very nice statues, a lot of emotions in stone, see the fathers of the church
nice paintings, a little bit creepy collections of saints' remains
anyway, it worth to rest for a while close to the old statues, try to feel the spirits around
