We visited the beautiful city of Siena for a sunny afternoon and made our way to the top of the city to see the famous Piazza del Campo. The first thing that strikes you is how they manage to hold a horse race there with so many people, a must see for a return trip one day. The Piazza is... More

Its really hard to imagine that they race horses around here. Some of the bends are 90 degrees and the track quite narrow. It was seriously cold in January and a lot of places shut for holidays after the 9th Jan.

This piazza has a commanding view of the tower. The famous horse race "The Palio" is held here in the summer. Great place for an evening stroll, just happened to be there when they were having an outdoor market, so wonderful to see the locals selling their handcrafted food and art!

It is big and there are plenty of things to do and see. Personally I like San Gimignano better. They have local pastries that are exceptional.

Really nice to see, sit and have a meal or an appertivo Gianni from Walk About Tuscany can do walking day tour to enjoy the history of this town. Very informative. The Palio de Siena history and race every year is fanastic and very very interesting for the competitive types. We loved it. Thanks Giannia for the tour

Now there are zillions of nice piazza in Italy and after a while you can get a little numb. This piazza in Siena had a special feel to it. The buildings, the shape, and the story of the annual event (we watched a video of the real thing) together made it special. Visited it as part of a tour and... More

We toured the piazza on March 14, 2016. It was a little on the cold side and was not yet tourist high season. Most of the shops were open but not all of them yet. We enjoyed climbing the tower but my wife does not like heights very much and got dizzy at the top. It was quite windy up... More

We visited this square 2 times. 2nd was a day of Il Palio competition. It was full of people- one group was in the middle of the square protected by fence another created an outer circle. Horse race with jockeys lasted more than 1 min and took place in the middle of these two groups. It's enough dangerous competition cause... More
