About
The Chigi Tower is one of the fourteen historic towers of San Gimignano and is located in Piazza del Duomo. The tower, although not very high, is one of the most beautiful city. It was built in 1280 and belonged to both the Useppi and Chigi family. The first three floors are covered with stone, well squared cut drafts, which open on the lights with low arches. On the first floor there is a typical portal which is accessed by stairs, the legacy of the struggles of the times of medieval towns, when they preferred to sleep secure building access by withdrawing the first floor stairs at night. On the second floor window is a narrow elongated slot with a bow resting on shelves. The top is covered with bricks instead of two single windows on the same first two floors, while the latter has no openings. It is the height of each floor are aligned trampling of neat rows of four scaffolding holes each, equipped with shelves, which look like wooden balconies that once had to increase the surface Arrange. The tower is flanked by medieval buildings: one to the left of particular value for the valuable presence of mullioned windows with nice workmanship.

Torre Chigi is the smallest tower located in Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square) in the old town of San Gimignano, a fantastic medieval town in Tuscany Region, in the center of Italy. It is one of the fourteen towers in the old town and probably it is the smallest one, but is is beauty. Probably the place is beautiful due to all towers, if only there would be one of them, it would be different. Very nice place, where you can see towers, cathedral, the main square and one other wonderful places.

Every tower in San Gimignano has it's own look and it's own sense of history. San Gimignano was not on our radar until we stepped into the Chianti region. I will tell you that this is a 'go-back' visit and the next time, I 'll be sure to have a guide.

This tower in the main piazza is private, buts adds to the charm of San Gimignano and is just another aspect creating the overall uniqueness of the city.

Not the highest of the remaining fourteen towers in the city, this one is probably the most picturesque. It is located in Piazza del Duomo, built in 1280 and belonged to families Useppi and Chigi. Another fine example of the medieval architecture in a city famous for its medieval atmosphere and spirit.

Ther are quite a few towers in San Gimignano, some you can climb and some you cannot. I think that you can only enjoy Torre Chigi from the outside.

The towers are what make this such a wonderful town to walk around in. It is hard to believe that all of this was created in the 12th century.

Personally, I am 'in love' with all the towers of San Gimignano, as well as with the entire town, but I do not attribute the 4 dots assigned to most of the attractions of the place to this one just because it cannot be visited. I respect private property but in my opinion this remains a 'handicap' of places that deserve easier use, from the point of view of a 'tourist' evaluation. The tower is one of those that overlooks Piazza Duomo, so it can still be admired from the outside and contributes significantly to determining the charm of the place, both during the day and at night, when everything is masterfully illuminated. Squeezed between medieval buildings, it dates back to 1280 and is not among the tallest but perhaps among the most beautiful. It's a shame that here on Trip's profile there are also photos of other towers along with Chigi, which do not help to identify it correctly.
