A lovely small church along the river. You cannot miss it when passing the bridge to the leaning tower.

Beautiful small church by the river on the way to central Pisa. Has a Chapel vibe. Worth visiting and taking pictures too

This little church is certainly surprising because of its location (it's not often you see a church positioned along a river). The gothic ornaments and the anomalous position for a church make it a curiosity not to be missed. Moreover, a thorn from the crown of thorns was kept here.

a funny and completely overdone piece on the riverside, just worth a short stop when strolling along the Arno banks.

After the magnificence of the Camposanto, this lovely church looks incredibly small. It is located along the river, and used to be right by it before they decided to elevate it in order to preserve it from floods. The detailed decoration of the building is quite remarkable
Unfortunately we could not go inside as the visiting times are quite limited.

Santa Maria della Spina church. Gothic architectural exemplar from XIV century, situated at the banks of Arno river. The name of the church allegedly derives from a relict that is kept within – a spike from the Jesus Christ crown-of-thorns. Unfortunately we were not able to get inside as due to Covid-19 church is currently closed.

The Holy Mary of the spine offers a great inside to mediaeval mankind. The building itself is devoted to one thorn..
Allegedly this was a thorn of the crown of Christ himself. But we will never know. The place has an exhibition on display demonstrating that the chips of wood allegedly belonging to the cross are enough to lay a railway track. Interesting to visit. And not hard to find.

Beautiful little mini church on the banks of the river. The church was closed when we walked past but was wonderfully ornate and picturesque with amazing details on the carvings.

Both or the times I passed by the inside of this small church was closed. However, the exterior is definitely worth looking at. The stonework is ornate. Now that the city of Pisa has grown up around this church, it appears in a somewhat incongruous position.
Worth stopping by to look at.

We hit upon this gem of a church, sited at the riverside. It has free access and is definitely worth a visit, inside and outside due to the magnificent sculptures adorning the walls.
