Also called Piazza Grande by the local population but bears its current name from Napoleon's sister who ruled over the city of Lucca in the 19th century. This square is very nice but it feels big when compared to the small alleys and squares that dominate other parts of the old town. The square was created with the aim of being a seat of political power with the Palazzo Ducale as the main institution. Today it is a lively square lined with trees, trattorias, people at outdoor cafes and many cultural events.

Considering the city of Lucca is so beautiful, this is a rather bland empty square in the South East of the city. Probably not worth visiting unless there is a special event like the festival.

There are rides, stalls and food vendors that are usually present. You will definitely find something characteristic. Especially in winter this square is cloaked in a very special atmosphere.

Very nice square in Lucca, I think it is the largest in the city. There are a lot of restaurants around it, there is also a big palace. The evening is quite lively.

Piazza Napoleone is a big square located in the center of Lucca, a city in Tuscany Region, in Italy. Really it is very big (probably the biggest one in the city), and when we visited the city (in August-2019) there was a little openmarket, which was nice. Good place to walk, if you come to the city. Also, I came with my daughter 3 years old in this moment, and she played in the center of the square. Also good for her.

My wife and I visited Lucca in the off season this past November. That morning we leisurely enjoyed a cappuccino at one of the coffee shops on the piazza. We were one of the few people there. We came back by later in the afternoon and the place was almost deserted. It was nice to see it when it was uncrowded.

Big square but nothing really special, got its name through Elise Bonaparte, the sister of the emperor, who ruled Lucca for some time.
