The unmistakable tower offers amazing views on Lucca and its surroundings. Observing the city from the shade of the Holm oak trees enjoying the breeze is an amazing experience and a must in Lucca. As it was a noble tower, the staircase to go up is rather wide and comfortable (compared for instance to the military clock tower that can be more impressive if you are not comfortable with heights and enclosed spaces).

We really enjoyed this, the climb was actually super easy. It was way more crowded and actually quite small at the top, that did surprise me. I loved looking at all the cool roof terraces, and it is always neat to see birds flying below where you are standing. The information along the walls as you are climbing the stairs is interesting as well, it is definitely worth the time to check this out.

Just two words: 230 steps.
Calmly you first climb marble steps, then increasingly narrower iron steps
The view from above (it is the tallest tower in the city) over the city is beautiful, and you can rest for a moment in the shade of the trees planted on the roof.
If you purchase the combined ticket (the ticket is valid for two days) you can also visit the clock tower and the botanical garden. Recommended

Torre Guinigi is an iconic landmark in Lucca. The tower with its trees is 45 meters high with approximately 232 steps. If you suffer from Acrophobia it might be a bit of a problem reaching the top and climbing the steps down. If you can overcome this you will be totally breathless at the views of Lucca and its countyside. Linger a little longer and appreciate the views.

Great view and great experience.. . however there are a lot of steps so can be strenuous for some but worth the trip to have a spectacular view of this beautiful quaint Italian city. It is a highlight of this magical town! And there are oak trees actually at the top!

It's one of the attractions In Lucca that's worth a visit for the panoramic view of the city and surrounds. It's a relatively easy climb to the top and the "garden" on the roof. It's kinda weird that there are four oak trees planted on the roof for the purpose of gaining additional height and prestige for the owner. It's worth a visit.

We enjoyed the tower. It offers excellent views from the top. We just turned up without booking which was no problem on a November Sunday morning. It was €5 each. There is not a lot of space at the top as expected so try and go when it is quiet. Would recommend while in Lucca.

When you arrive in Lucca it is worth climbing the Guinigi tower, the climb is not demanding as some flights of stairs are located in the building and when the real staircase to the tower arrives there are flat parts to catch your breath.
Once at the top the spectacle is guaranteed, there are holm oak plants that really make the difference with other towers in the city such as that of the hours which among other things requires greater physical effort.
Looking at the city you can see the many towers present and those that have been demolished.
The height of the towers for the families of that time coincided with wealth and power and many families were destroyed when perhaps they opposed the powerful and got the worst of it.

The signs on the way up tell you about the different sites in the town, and then the last one shows you where they all are in the skyline you’re about to see. Try to go when it’s not crowded; there can be traffic jams on the narrow stairs, and as noted, the area at the top is rather small. If someone from your group doesn’t want to go up, have them take a photo of you from the ground while you’re in one of the windows on the second or third “story” of the climb.

A stop not to be missed!
The Guinigi tower can be reached after 241 steps, the climb is simple and, from the top, you can enjoy a spectacular 360° view of the city! At the top you can rest for a few minutes in the shade of some holm oaks that have been planted there, in a sort of hanging garden.

I am seeking the old silk making area, and in particular the house of Regolo Turrettini, father of Francesco Turrittini Thank you for any hints how to find these
Written 26 September 2017
Paolo Guinigi who built the tower was himself a silk merchant so I imagine the trade was concentrated in the area and there are a few craftsmen still pursuing/demonstrating the trade in the city. Afraid I can't help you with the rest. Enjoy.
