Monument sit in the Piazza Micheli in front of the hotel Gran Duca. From there you can see parts of 16 Th. Century Fortezza Vecchia. Monument depicts the duke Ferdinand I with four Moorish slaves reminder of Livorno’s slave market.

I spent a day with a friend in Livorno. As we walked around in the port, we came across this monument. The monument is interesting and we took a few pictures. To be honest, I would not make a special effort to come to Livorno...More

Monument located in the marina area of the city of Livorno. Apparently it depicts conquering pirates but looks more like a sick glorification of slavery to me.

I suspect this statue was erected as both a celebration of a great victory and as a reminder to always be vigilant against threats. In this day and age, it is a brutal reminder of has happened before should never happen again.

One of the most important monument in Livorno. You have to known a little bit of history to understand the place.

Interesting monument with interesting history. It's located near the port in a pretty busy area and not much else to see.

After visiting the market, we just walked around the corner and there it was. Quite something. The statues had wonderful faces. It' is said to be lucky if you can see all four noses of the figures at one time, sadly only managed to get...More

Beautifully rendered sculpture at the end of the port area depicting four Moorish slaves. Explanatory signage tells their story. Fronted by a coffee shop on one side and the harbor on the other, the location is more of a pass-through than a destination, but worth...More
