If you're traveling to Italy and are interested in a great cooking class, I highly recommend Barbara Desderi and her school, La Pentola delle Meraviglie. I've been to several cooking classes in Italy, and this one is by far the best experience I've had cooking abroad. Barbara has a passion for cooking and she loves sharing it with others. She is very knowledgeable and friendly and makes it a fun learning experience. Our class size was small and Barbara gave us wonderful personal attention. We never felt rushed and everyone had a chance to participate, which isn't always the case in a larger class. Our lesson included a visit to the local Sant Ambrogio market to pick out fresh porcini, cheese, meats, fruits and vegetables, and then we were off for a fun day of cooking. Our lesson took place in a beautiful country setting just minutes from Florence, and we were surrounded with stunning views of olive groves and rolling Tuscan hills. The day spent shopping at the market and cooking, ended with a delicious feast, accompanied by local wine and enjoyed outside on a beautiful terrace overlooking the olive grove. Pure Heaven! The next time I am in Florence, I plan to take another class with Barbara. If you're looking for a memorable culinary experience, sign up to cook with Barbara. It will be a highlight of your trip.
