- Bill MArizona405 contributionsClose to what you want to do and seeWe took a high-speed train from Milan to Florence and another from Florence to Rome. The station is central to Florence, and it is an easy walk to hotels, tour buses, restaurants, and the leather district, as well as to the two main attractions, i.e. David at Academia and the Uffizi Art Museum.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 October 2023
- Angelo SHilliard, Ohio5,477 contributionsPretty Standard Large Italian Train StationPrimary train station in Florence located very close to Basilica Santa Maria Novella, and within a five minute walk of the market, 10 minute walk to Accademia, and a fifteen minute walk to Ponte Vecchio. The station is very large and all of the bins are arranged in one line at the ground level - no need for stairs. There are numerous shops within the station and a large parking lot up front. There is also a good baggage storage if you are only making a quick stop and do not want to drag your bags around the city. AS a tip, use the baggage storage counter on the outside of the station. The inside counter always seems to have a long line.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 December 2023
- BradHong Kong, China1,78,178 contributionsConveniently located near the Historic Centre of FlorenceHave used SMN for train travel across Italy a handful of times over the past couple of decades. It is a fairly busy station with numerous arrival and departures to other popular destinations around the country. Given the relative small size of Florence it is fairly convenient to travel by foot to/from most hotels around the Historic Centre of Florence as well. Plenty of taxis available if preferred but walking is just fine if you don't have too much luggage. Station is fitted with quite a few self-use ticket machines. You'll find traditional manned booths for ticket purchase as well but seems these might be credit card purchase only now. The departure platforms are now located within a secure area behind a glassed entryway. Show or scan your tickets and you can enter and walk over to respective platform once it is showing on the board.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 March 2024
- JordanColumbus, Ohio291 contributionsConveniently locatedConviently located train station between Milan and Rome. We stopped off in Florence for a few days while traveling between the two. Quite close to several hotels and major attractions of Florence. We found it a bit challenging to catch up with taxis and other members of our party due to the free for all just outside. Inside there are really no good places to wait for the trains.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 30 May 2024
- Francois TJohannesburg, South Africa1,623 contributionsBusy and not client friendlyWe were traveling from Florence to Venice and made sure we not too early but also not too late. Platforms only announced couple minutes before departure so you have to hang around in corridor and no real waiting area. Watch out for scams as people approach you to “help” but they not staff and just want to rip you off. If unsure of anything speak to officials or security, we found them mostly helpful. Be aware of pickpockets, not that many, but they there.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 September 2024
- Paul FAlbuquerque, New Mexico3 contributionsOutstanding Disability Assistance for Italian Train Travel - Sala BluDisability Assistance Italy Trains: Sala Blu is a free service of TrenItalia for pregnant women and individuals with disabilities. This is an OUTSTANDING Service for persons with disabilities traveling by train in Italy!! They made ALL our reservations and coordinated ALL train transfers. (You must purchase your tickets yourself - online preferably) They helped push my wife’s wheelchair along with one of our bags. They met us at each transfer and assisted us to our connecting train! They took all of the fear and concern out of traveling by train in Italy with a wheelchair! They promptly replied back to our emails (SalaBlu.Nazionale@rfi.it). in English and were patient with all our questions and itinerary changes. Signage at major train stations was good. Working with Sala Blu was a real blessing. The staff is friendly and courteous!!! They are a MUST for travelers with disabilities. Awful customer service - as in none! It’s such a busy train station, and our train from Florence to Pisa (for our flight home) was delayed and not showing up on the board, we asked 3 separate staff members for help and all either ignored us or just said ‘delayed’ , which did not help us at all when we just wanted to know if we could catch another train etc as we had to get a flight in a few hours.
Plenty of food and drink places though. Toilets €1 to enter and located on Platform 5 for anyone reading who may need to use them - this was another ordeal to try find out where they were located with little to no signage for them.

This is a sprawling trail station located very close to many sights in Florence. It’s about 2/3-3/4mi from the station to the Arno River. I purchased outgoing tickets at the TrenItalia ticket office which was easy and efficient. All staff members inside the station are multilingual. Security is active and present. The taxi rank is right outside to the left - very organized and hassle free.

Big train station in Florence. We took the train from Florence to Rome. I would not recommend unless you have only carry on bags or upgraded to First Class. our travel agent booked us on the next tier down from first class and we were under the impression we would have storage for 4 large suitcases. We were so wrong. There is some storage areas between the cars but it is first come and the storage area is minimal. The areas above the seats would not even fit my backpack and the seats are narrow so it is hard to roll a suitcase through the aisles. Would not use if you have lots of luggage. The actual train station and train ride were fine

Make sure you know what train you're catching and at what time and know which platform you're going to and where it is. The guys at the platform entrances just talk to each other and will point to a sign "No Info". They couldn't care less. Shocking customer service. Good luck with that.

I leave from Udine to get to Rome Termini, in Florence I get off as there is a 5 minute stop, I took the opportunity to smoke a cigarette; Three arrogant and, to say the least, rude ticket inspectors approached me asking for my ticket. I showed them my ticket and in disbelief they exclaimed "Venice Mestre - Rome ends?" As if it were strange, they check again a second time and go away dissatisfied as if something was not right, also whispering something between themselves, even though I had also told them that the ticket had already been validated by the ticket inspector. The point is not that they asked me for the ticket, but the arrogance and presumption they had towards me.
But they turned out to be quite INCOMPETENT given that they don't even know the routes of the trains they work on. SHAME ON YOU and I won't say anything else so as not to appear rude!!! But it was a truly nerve-wracking cigarette break!!!

Large and crowded train station as terminus necessarily train passengers must go to the exit all in one direction. Well organized with every service .Il jewel,in my opinion, does the underpass that connects the station to the center. Beautiful, very convenient for the many tourists who like me visit the beautiful city of Florence. You walk with great pleasure and admire the beautiful animation they have installed, as well as the many shops that are located inside. It offers all the necessary solutions for those with disabilities, from ramps to numerous elevators. On my visit everything was also very clean and guarded by law enforcement.

I have used this station a few times. It's a bigger station, and easy to navigate. They have a left luggage depot, inside the station. There's a McDonald's inside, with a few other places to eat. Also a currency exchange, and some shops. Local buses take off and arrive, outside the station. There had been a change since I last visited the station. Before, you could purchase bus tickets inside the hall where they sold high speed train tickets. But now, you have to go to the tabacchi store outside, and downstairs, of the station. Also, there was a place behind the station, that sold the bus tickets. Just across the street from the station, are plenty of places to eat, and hotels. Major landmarks are within walking distance, from the station, if you have a couple, to a few hours layover.

Station without seats! Yes, it is the first thing that comes to mind, assuming that everyone knows the architectural beauty of this historic station. There are no longer chairs in the lobby of the ticket office, nor in the main lobby, just people of all ages strangled on the floor, sitting nicely on the bases of two advertising panels. All to preserve beauty? An example of how beauty can be transformed into ugliness if we do not know how to adapt it to the needs of the community. A station is not a museum painting.

Ciao!

Is there storage for large suitcases so we can leave them there and shop while waiting for trsin
Written 9 April 2019
There is a luggage storage service by a company called Kipoint that belongs to the National post office company. Cost is 6 Euros for the first 5 hours and 1 Euro for each hour until the 12th, 0.50 euro thereafter. Open from 6 am to 11 pm. They also offer a porter service. Look for the sign Deposito Bagagli / Left Luggage and a luggage picture.

is the station convenient for people with walking disabilities?
Written 18 January 2019
All train tracks are at the same level of the entrance, but it's probably not fully accessible if one has walking disabilities. There are accessible toilets and a place called Sala Blu for people with disabilities.

Hi
Are there any storage lockers at the station
Cheers
Written 23 November 2018
Hi, there are no lockers. There is one close by in Via dell'Albero, 22, for an euro per hour. It is open from 7am to 9pm. Train station itself has a manned luggage storage on track 16 open from 6am to 11pm and the cost is 6 euros from the first 5 hours then 0.90 euro per hour 6 to 12, and 0.40 thereafter.
