This statue is located in the loggia near the Palazzo Vecchio. It is one of many statues in the loggia but is the most famous as it sits at the front. It is a beautiful statue and has been done in great detail.

Of course the goriness of this statue of Perseus wielding the freshly decapitated head of Medusa is to be expected but somehow comes as a bit of a shock perhaps because the hollow-eyed Perseus stares blankly out at us from his high plinth. Dramatic and memorable in black, contrasting with the usual white marble that abounds in the square. Certainly... More

We came on through on a walking tour to learn all about the Piazza and the statues, which I would thoroughly recommend to get the most out of your time in Florence. This is a great statue with a good history.

This statue was built and placed after the statues of David and Hercules. The artist was specific about where he wanted it, as its location is part of the art. David was placed as a sign from the people of Florence to the Medici that they needed to remember the little guy. The Medici placed the statue of hercules to... More

This statue is just next to the Vecchio palace which is in Signoria Piazza. In here you can spend very good time by looking at the statues and may have a coffee in a restaurant. Then you can walk through the street under the uffizi palace and reach the river to see the Ponte Vecchio.

People love the idealized male body of Perseus. There are visitors that compare this statue to current modern day actor, Matthew McConaughey. Enough said.

This isn't an attraction I'd expect people to go out of their way to see but you will see it if you're in Piazza della Signoria which in itself is well worth a visit.

Situated in a beautiful square near the Uffizi the Perseus statue is fascinating and enchanting. There are lots of cafes nearby but tend to be pricey but nice for an afternoon coffee and people watching.

Staying in Uffizi

Neighbourhood Profile
Uffizi
Every visitor coming to Florence for the first time will immediately identify with Uffizi. As in past times, passing through Via dei Calzaiuoli, you can reach the city center, the Florence that everybody dreams of. In just a few steps, visitors can experience the rare beauty of the capital of the Renaissance. walking delighted across Palazzo Vecchio and overlooking Piazza della Signoria, up to the Loggia of the Uffizi where it is possible to fully taste the talent of the best artists who animated Florence over the centuries. When the sun goes down, there’s nothing better than a walk along the river Arno up to the ancient bridge, Ponte Vecchio. It is full of jewels and decorated by the colors captured in postcards.
