The area
Neighbourhood: Piazzale Michelangelo
Just outside the ancient walls of Florence, Viale Michelangiolo starts. It is a winding road rimmed by wonderful poplars and holm oaks. The long ascent opens up to the most beautiful and famous panoramic viewpoint of Florence: Piazzale Michelangelo, where an elevated terrace offers visitors an incomparable and breathtaking view of the entire city from above. During good weather, Piazzale Michelangelo provides visitors with a serene space surrounded by the amazing landscape, better if accompanied by a fresh gelato from a local kiosk. During night, visitors will be dazzled by the warm lights of the capital of the Renaissance. Spend a second with the silent Romanesque beauty of the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte: the one that wishes good morning and good night to Florence!

Very nice view of the city as you go up to Piazzale Michelangelo. Ideal place for a relaxing walk during spring or summer.

Florence and its gardens are wonderful. However, I do not recommend going in August due to the heat and the crowds. In a city with few trees, all of the gardens that we visited were a welcome respite from both, but the Rose Garden only contained a few "last roses of Summer"

We also found that though the entrance to the nearby Boboli Gardens often had lines and required reservations, entering through the adjacent Bardini Garden provides a 10 € admission to both gardens and a back entry to the upper portion of the Boboli Garden.

We quickly learned to carry our own water supply as public drinking fountains are few and far between. Cafes with refreshments are abundant, but expensive.

Free entry. Just next to Piazzale MicheJlangelo. Appreciate the Japanese elements added to this garden. Cozy enough for escaping the crowd and enjoying the commanding view of Florence.

We hiked all the way up here just to be disappointed. It was very unkept and only a few
Roses. Don't waste your time. However the view of the city is beautiful right before the entrance to the garden!

Folon was a great Belgian artist with his own museum in Terhulpen (Belgium). But his work is on this nice place in Florence. Proud! The statue of the suitcase with the view on the city is iconic. For us Belgians ... a nice metaphor of this trip :-).

On our way up the the square of Michelangelo we visited these rose gardens. They are free to enter and quite cozy and well maintained. There were a lot if locals enjoying the sun. Probably also because the gardens have free entrance. From here you alresdy have a nice view on the oldtown of Florence.

Nice garden, nothing to write home about, my roses at home are just as nice! The way some people were acting I don't think they had ever seen a rose before!
Good place away from the crowds to sit and chill. Rest rooms here.
