- Herbert C1,744 contributionsLegacy of the Medici familyAs the Roman god of freshwater and the sea, it is little wonder that there is a fountain named after Neptune in several other major Italian cities, Florence included. The tribute is understandable in Florence, as Neptune's dominion over the seas symbolizes the power of Cosimo de' Medici, who is responsible for establishing the Medici family as effective rulers of Florence during much of the Italian Renaissance, thereby alluding to Florence's rule of the seas. Located at the centre of Piazza della Signoria, it is hard to miss this glorious fountain dating back to the 16th century, although it does get over-shadowed, literally and figuratively, by the imposing Palazzo Vecchio and neighbouring replica of the statue of David. This quintessential fountain is not merely the typical must-have at a busy European piazza, but in the case of Florence, it also represents the historic legacy of the Medici family for the city in celebration of its Renaissance Movement.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 February 2024

This is the work of Bartolomeo Ammannati (1560-74) and was recently restored in 2019. What you see is a classical image of Neptune, peering to his left. He stands on carriage pedestal with horses bursting from the fountain basin. Water spouts into the basin from various positions. The basin is then surrounded by mythical beings. It is a beautiful fountain and addition to the monument scene on the square.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 8 April 2024

It's fascinating that it dates back to the 16th century and the intricacy of the artwork in marble and bronze is incredible. And the water gushing from this fountain was very tempting on the hot day that we came here back in August. It was nice to view this lovely piece of artwork without paying any entrance fees or waiting in line for ever...Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 3 September 2024

If you are at Signora square, why not stop by and enjoy. This square is very popular due to the amount of provocative statues here. The Neptune statue draws the most attention as it's also a waterfall. Many people can be seen at this statue taking photos.
A definite must visit if you are at Signora Square.

This is one of the most impressive sculptures I’ve ever seen. King Neptune is certainly represented here as an all powerful being. The setting within the fountain, surrounded by several other sculptures (both stone and bronze) with water shooting up is quite dramatic. There are so many interesting sculptures in/around Piazza della Signoria and in the adjacent Loggia dei Lanzi. I enjoyed all of them, but Neptune is my favorite.

While within the city's main square, don't forget this beautiful fountain devoted to Neptune. The fountain itself was nicely sculpted and is always a great meeting point for everyone scattering around to explore the city by foot.
The nearby statues were covered in scaffolding but this fountain is still in its full glory during my visit. Good luck!

Unfortunately this magnificent fountain had become a magnet for vandals in tbd past, but thanks to the Ferragamo family’s generous donation, the long overdue two year restoration of the fountain was completed in 2019.
The fountain was commissioned by Cosimo I de' Medici, Duke of Florence from 1537-1569, who was a patron of arts in his native city. It is situated in front of Palazzo Vecchio on Piazs Signoria.

Piazza della Segnoria is a small area you come across when walking through the beautiful streets of Florence. You can't miss the Fountain of Neptune he is absolutely stunning and towers across the piazza. There are several other statues in the square to be admired to as will as a super caffe if you want to stop for a quick drink called Rivoire.

An impressive fountain of the Roman god Neptune in the Piazza della Signoria. This seems to be Florence’s version of Rome’s Trevi Fountain. Tourists are always throwing coins in it. It was recently restored to its former glory and looks very stunning, especially at night.

The excursion we went on from Celebrity edge cruise left us by coach miles away. I did not see anything as disabled and too far away for me. My friends walked to the fountain but so many crowds was off putting. As we only had 1.5 hours they did not see the Spanish steps as there was no time

Gostaria de saber se a fonte ainda está em obras. Estarei em Florença começo de maio e gostaria muito de ver essa obra. Alguém sabe dizer?
