No trip to Florence would be complete without spending a few hours with Paul! It began with Paul quizzing us, then over the next 4 hours walking the heart of Florence we learned about western history from before BC Rome thru the renaissance to the present. Weaving a story filled with facts and historical nuggets in a fast paced, passionate... More

Paul's tour of Florence was easily the most interesting, informative, and memorable tour that I and my family have ever experienced. We did his three hour walking tour of Florence, and learned a great deal about the history of Florence that we are much likelier to remember than most other tours. As others have noted, Paul is a great teacher... More

Paul is hands down the #1 guide in Italy. He made the city come alive and had a historical insight on every street corner. I still remember all of the stories about the Medici family. Trip in Aug 2015

A friend's mother had used Paul and loved him. She recommended him to us and I couldn't have been happier. We spent two half days in Rome on a private tour, seeing all the historic sites (pantheon, Colosseum, trevi fountain, roman forum, Vatican etc.). It was unreal to be walking around such a historic city with two different tour guides... More

Paul was by far the best guide we had on a two week tour of Germany and Italy! His history knowledge was unbelievable!! A definite must to go with him to be your tour guide!

Paul is a superb guide. He combines an intelligent and thoughtful look at Florence with the kind of enthusiasm that is too often missing in these events. His tour of the David is simply brilliant--bringing together history, art appreciation, and art history into a jam-packed hour. We thought he was great, as did all of our kids.

My partner and I were vacationing in Italy for the first time in October 2016. My well-traveled work colleague and his wife recommended Paul Costca as a possible tour guide in Florence. They had visited Florence several times and said Paul was the best tour guide of many tour guides. Boy, were they right about Paul! I emailed Paul for... More

Paul Costa of Tuscan Tour Guides arranged for six in our group to spend the day shopping in Florence with a personal shopper, Valentina. The majority of the tour was focused on shopping for unique, higher end articles, e.g., clothing and accessories, jewelry, dining room linens, flatware, dishware and glassware, textiles (cloth, wall hangings) and art. All the participants had... More

Paul Costa makes history come alive and makes one feel like you are actually visiting the period being examined. He is incredibly knowledgeable, but almost as important, he is fun! His personality and sense of humor make the time with him very special. My friend and I enjoyed his 3 hr walking tour of historic Florence so much that we... More

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
