Michelangelo and Dante are buried in the church. The square has many leather shops around it and also lots of cafes and coffee shops. If you really want leather and to visit the church, go behind the church to The Leather School and store. You...More

The Piazza is quiet, spacious and has stone seats to rest our feet. We have been looking for a green Firenze hoodie for our daughter and elsewhere they are 39euros. Visited the T shirt. Shop on the Piazza and found a great variety and the...More

We spent lots of time on different days sat here watching the world go by. We were also eating fabulous ice cream from the best gelateria in Florence. We tried the ones mentioned in the guide books but none were a patch on Gelateria Royale

One of the main plazas/squares in Florence a few blocks east of Uffizi Gallery, Piazza Santa Croce takes its name from the Basilica Santa Croce that overlooks the square. The rectangular piazza is lined with restaurants, shops, and bars, much like Piazza della Signoria—only not...More

Not as crowded as the other Piazzas It is scary to think of the talent and artistry that went into these buildings. I cannot stress enough as to how important a guide, even just for a few hours lends to the appreciation.

Staying at a hotel near the Piazza Santa Croce, we stopped for a nearby dinner (one street away) and enjoyed the relatively peaceful atmosphere - locals walking home from work, mamas and children, adolescents, and far fewer tourists. There is a restaurant right on the...More

This was very close to our hotel and we watched buskers performing, ate gelato and drank coffee in the area.

This square is slightly quieter than some, restaurants and pavement eating spaces. This basilica is wonderful. It's is also where Michaelangelo and Dante have their tombs. Also the leather school where you can watch students make items

We first visited this city square four years ago. At that time the entire plaza was surrounded by temporary spectator stands with a football pitch set up in the middle of it. When we arrived there again on our most recent visit to Florence, the...More

We stayed near the Piazza which never seemed crowded day or night compared to other parts of Florence. A nice ambiance during early evening

Stop and stare at the beauty and symmetry of the
Basilica of Santa Croce any time day or night.
Unraveling around it are a number of architectural and
artistic masterpieces, from the Synagogue to the
Central National Library. As a hub for young people,
the area gets busy with people who want to have fun: a
continuous flow of tourists and locals become animated
by songs and dances.

Yes. There's a Taxi stand just in front of the square. But it's only a five to seven minute walk.
