This 19th century piazza has undoubtedly the best panoramic view of Florence. The square is decorated with copies of Michelangelo's sculptures, but it's the view people come here to see.

Hike up the hill - it's worth it

We hiked up the hill. My daughter had to see where Kardashian got married to her boy. The view was stunning. Worth the hike

The longer the days the slower the group . While waiting for our food tour we spend an hour on this quaint piazzale watching people. It was always peaceful and calm and does have one small restaurant for coffee or a glas of wine.

We took bus #12 from Santa Maria Novella Train Station bus stop to get here. Takes about 30 min. It is across Arno river on the other side of Florence where the locals live. Best panoramic view that's free!

This Piazzale is a ways from the other tourist attractions but the views overlooking Florence cannot be missed.

It's a long way up the steep steps, but the climb is well worth it! the views of the city you get from the top are astounding. Plus there's a nice cafe there to get some ice-cream or beer where you can sit, relax and take in the views. Go at a suitable time to experience the views during daylight... More

Piazzale Michelangelo is up a hill when you can spend some time there watching the great view from the top of the whole Florence. Take nice pictures and visit the cafes or the restaurants close by which are very nice and decent! You can reach the place by public transport or the hop on-hop off bus. If you like walking... More

We were advised to go here to see the sunset, and it was such a lovely evening. The sunset was average on the night we went up, but would be brilliant in the height of the summer when the sun is higher, a very nice place to spend an hour or so though.

Staying in Piazzale Michelangelo

Neighbourhood Profile
Piazzale Michelangelo
Just outside the ancient walls of Florence, Viale Michelangiolo starts. It is a winding road rimmed by wonderful poplars and holm oaks. The long ascent opens up to the most beautiful and famous panoramic viewpoint of Florence: Piazzale Michelangelo, where an elevated terrace offers visitors an incomparable and breathtaking view of the entire city from above. During good weather, Piazzale Michelangelo provides visitors with a serene space surrounded by the amazing landscape, better if accompanied by a fresh gelato from a local kiosk. During night, visitors will be dazzled by the warm lights of the capital of the Renaissance. Spend a second with the silent Romanesque beauty of the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte: the one that wishes good morning and good night to Florence!
