Last week I joined a tour led by Mercurio of the "Mai Visti" exhibit on Alchemy at the Uffizi. The guide's enthusiasm was contagious. I was immersed into the world of the Medici Dukes and shown both scientific and artistic works that have never been on view in the main gallery. The Mercurio initiative is done to help raise funds to restore works of art in the Uffizi. After participating in an informative and engaging tour, it was a true pleasure to give a donation to Art restoration.…

My wife and I took a private tour of the Oltrarno and the Uffizi Gallery. This was a private tour for just the two of us on my 50th birthday so we weren't too bothered about the cost but it was €236 including entrance tickets. Our lovely English speaking guide Jane, took us from our hotel across the Ponte Vecchio and showed us some hidden parts of the Oltrarno before getting us ahead of the queues and into the Uffizi Gallery. Jane was so knowledgeable and made everything so interesting that even though we only had time for the highlights, we both really learned a great deal and got a new appreciation for Italian painting. Highly recommended.…

We took two tours with this company while in Florence. First was a private Walking Tour. Our guide was very knowledgable and passionate about Florence and its history. He also helped us maneuver about and avoid the long lines. Of course, having a private tour was more expensive than a group tour, but it was well worth it. We were able to ask questions and get individual attention as compared to the groups wearing headsets following their guides with flag and mic. The second tour was a half-day tour into Chianti. Our guide, Carla, and a driver took us in a Mercedes sedan into Chianti. Carla also was very knowledgable and enthuriastic. We visitied the town of Greve and an ancient village and castle nearby. We saw beautiful vineyards and monasteries and completed the tour with a visit to a small winery. The winery tour was conducted by an employee, who was very hospitable and provided a tasting. The owner and his daughter were in and out and were not friendly towards us, but I am sure they have many visitors. All in all, we got a good taste of Chianti and saw some areas where the buses can't reach due to the roads. I would prefer to take a full-day tour so we could have gone deeper into Tuscany and maybe Siena, but time did not permit.…
