About
Over the years the Collection has grown so much, now reaching more than 243 models, that is has overtaken various collections in museums all around the world. Each of the machines in the Collection has been built using materials of the time being wood, metal, ropes and fabrics and interestingly, in the course of construction, many astounding mechanical findings have been revealed. Our research team has expanded over the years and now includes a really talented study group of scholars consisting of Historians, Engineers, Architects, Educators, Artisans and Craftsmen, whose expertise and knowledge has contributed enormously to improve the outcome of our scientific and historical research. The Collection has also been enriched with ‘Vitruvian Machines’, at least those we know of thanks to the writings of that great Roman Engineer of the first century BC., by other important ‘Greek-Roman Machines’ and some from the era of ‘Ancient Egypt’. Our research team also undertakes projects on behalf of third parties and is very proud of the rediscovery of the lost mechanism of Leonardo’s Robot and a new hypothesis for the motion of the Mechanical Lion. Of key importance to us is that the findings and rewards of our research and work is accessible for everyone to witness and enjoy. Therefore, in addition to The Collection being available to Museums, Art Galleries, Organizations, private exhibitions and for shopping mall displays, we’ve made provision for rental opportunities to smaller groups for School activities, Conferences and even Renaissance themed dinners.

Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.

A little gem near Duomo. Perfect for an hour with kids, lots pf machineries testifying the genius mind of da Vinci. Upstairs there is also a room dedicated to Brunelleschi.

    Best museum ever!
The museum was amazing! I got to learn about DaVinci, his art, his inventions and how he thought the womb looked like. The museum is good for kids too because they can play with the recreated inventions that he made. At the reception there’s a shop where you can get a souvenir for anybody! The air conditioning was refreshing and made the experience even better.

We found the whole experience less than inspiring really. Entry was expensive, the rooms were filled with ‘do not touch’ signs and the the whole experience was over in about 30 mins unless you wanted to play downstairs. All 5 of us (including boys aged 10, 13 and 14) really thought they could have done a whole lot better. Interactive maybe??

This is a very nice place to know Leonardo Da Vinci creations and how did they work. But this is a small place, and tranlated explanations are bad, at least to Spanish. However I recommend to go and understand some ingeneering problems.

If you want to discover his inventions, how it works, and many things about his life, this is a good start point. The museum is small, but enough for discovering many things. Incredible this GENIUS. Many info is in 3 or 4 languages.

I've been twice, once pre-children and once (today) with my 11-year old. The first time I went I thought it was good but slightly expensive (€7) given that it's modern models of da Vinci machines, but there's about 20 or 30 or them, and an interesting film of his life in Florence- which is quite long but interesting and well made. My 11-year old LOVED IT. She likes engineering in general and although it's a slight shame that you can't touch and explore all of the machines, the ones you can play with illustrate their points very well. There is a "play room" towards the end where you can build your own stuff, make models and attempt mirror writing (which I found IMPOSSIBLE!!!!), which children 9-12 will love. The video in the next room is very informative

Word to the wise- there's actually another room at the back of video room which is very easy to miss, and I think many people do.

Off the beaten track and in the ground-floor of a hotel (although near l'accademia), this exhibition is easier missed.

We had read in the guide book about a Da Vinci museum near the Galleria dell'Accademia so when we were on our way there say this place and assumed it was the one in the guide book.

Was bit disappointed that it wasn't free with the Firenze card but kids wanted to go in so we paid the 24 euros and have to say were a little underwhelmed- 4 rooms with yes some interesting stuff but not what we had anticipated. The description in the book said loads of interactive stuff for the kids etc. and a flying machine to touch etc. but there wasn't that much of that type of stuff.

I came on here to see what the reviews were like and realised that we were in the wrong museum and the one we should have been at was a couple of streets away on Via dei Servi so make sure you get the right museum!

I went to this museum at the urging of a fellow traveler and was disappointed. Although there are models of many of Leonardo's inventions (some hands-on), the information was voluminous and arduous to wade through at times. (I say this as a professional historian, not someone who isn't interested in reading about the past.) There is a kids section that is rather engaging even for adults. The documentary that plays in a small room where body parts are located is at least an hour long and quite boring. This seems, unfortunately, like a tourist trip. Go to the other museum instead.

There are two Leonardo da Vinci exhibits in Florence located two blocks away from each other. One is on Via Servi and the other on Via Cavour. I visited the one on Via Cavour with my 10 year old son. There are four rooms that are part of the exhibit and they are mostly filled with da Vinci's wonderful inventions. There is also a movie playing about his life with English subtitles. Much of the exhibit is hands on and interactive. Both my son and I really enjoyed the exhibit. We spent about an hour there. It was worth the tickets price (7 Euros for adults and 5 for children).

If you are a boy, or even a girl, and like machinery but don't like the little kids in the typical science museum, then this is a place for you. First of all ignore the name: it isn't about the stone cutter but rather his visionary contemporary. In addition to an excellent long video about the life of the genius Leonardo da Vincil it has more than 50 large models of his inventions, many of them hands on. If you watch the entire video, read every description, and turn every crank, you could easily spend a half day at this excellent, unique, unexpected find in tourist-mobbed Firenze. Regardless of how much time you give it, though, you will come away in awe of this flawed, enigmatic painter, designer, and visionary.
