This church and convent was originally built between 1268-1475 and is located across the river in the Oltrarno neighborhood of Florence, Italy. Most of the church was destroyed by fire in 1771 with the exception of the old Sacristy, the Corsini Chapel and Brancacci Chapel....More

There is a Sunday mass at 10am this is sparsely attended. The church is lovely, worth walking around to see all the chapels.

Entry to the church is free. However, you cannot get anywhere close to the Brancacci frescos for which there is a separate entrance and fee. Nevertheless the church is attractive enough in its own right.

Arrived excepting to see the frescos and much more of the other spaces within the church; however, we were limited to the chapel of the frescos, which were great, but there is much more to see. If you want to see the art only, there...More

I've been to the Brancacci Chapel four times now and have never, otherwise, been in Santa Maria del Carmine. There are many more churches in Florence that have greater art to see... if you're there, of course, you can stop in. But spend the time...More

This church is located about 1 km from the Ponte Vecchio and access is not so good but it's worthwhile visiting here just to see Masaccio's famous fresco 'Expulsion from the Garden of Eden' which benchimarks the new expression of the Renaissance paintings.

Santa Maria delle Carmine (free entry) is located in the Oltrarno district and is where you find the worldly Brancacci Chapel. You can visit the church through its main entrance, instead of the side entrance which leads directly to the Brancacci Chapel. The church was...More

The Massaccio frescos are beautifully lit and easy to study. But to process the tourists and sell souvenirs any semblance of this being a holy place has been lost. So lucky to have seen it first 50 years ago. But compared with the queues elsewhere...More

I realize that the draw is usually the Brancacci Chapel, but I visited on a Sunday when the chapel was closed. However, the main church was very much worth a visit. I attended a portion of the Sunday morning mass and was able to view...More

A warm evening with a cocktail in your hand and great
company is the ideal way to experience Piazza Santo
Spirito; the area is busiest at sunset for happy hour.
Visitors cannot hide their astonishment sitting on the
staircase under the Basilica of Santo Spirito, and
they cannot help but stare at the architectural
masterpieces like Bianca Cappello House, Fontana dello
