Being interested in ancient structures, I enjoyed visiting the Dome and the Tower sections. The facade of the structure is amazing too but the Dome is the crown of this place.

Seeing the photos doesn't compare to seeing the Duomo in real life! Turning the corner and coming across this astonishing building is a rather dramatic experience. Even in the the rain it looks amazing, but luckily we saw it the following day in the sunlight - just stunning. It's free to go inside the cathedral itself, but book tickets if... More

The outside is magnificent. You need to see it. I didn't enjoy the inside as much. It was way to crowded and you could hardly move around.

When you walk up upon the cattedrale, it will take your breath away! The duomo is so big and beautiful. Try to go up to the observation area- great views of the city!

We went to the duomo on one of the days of our visit and were told to book online but nothing about reserving a time to climb the duomo. We went online and paid for the ticket mainly to climb the duomo as we weren't that interested in anything else. Again nothing online or on the email said about reserving... More

This is the one attraction where the Florence Card falls down. If you book for this online (15E for everything), you can book a time for the Cupola climb. (and maybe the Campanile, not sure we didn't do that). But if you have the Florence Card as we did, you can go straight into the Baptistery - beautiful, really quiet... More

A trip to Florence cannot be complete without visiting the Duomo. Firstly make sure you buy your ticket on line. The earlier the better. When you get there you will see a queue wrapping around the Duomo itself but it moves very quickly. The upper level is exquisite, where for a small donation you can light a candle if that... More

This was the whipped cream on my trip to Florence. Trust me, when you walk about the corner and see this Cattedrale, you will never ever be able to compare it to anything else. Make sure you walk to the top!!!! The lines are long but totally worth it!

Neighbourhood Profile
Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
