While in Florence you cannot miss this due to its impressive size and artistry. Truly stunning piazza surrounded by all things cultural. Horse drawn carriage tours can be taken from here- Highly recommended to see all the main parts of Florence for the first time and to get you bearings.

I came to it from a side street and I wasn't looking ahead until I emerged into the Piazza-- wow!! it took my breath away, I am never seen such a magnificent building, the surprise was it was in the middle of quite large buildings but it made everything around look like a dolls town, the sheer size and colours... The centre of Florence and to see the Duomo, Baptistery and Campanile is just beautiful architecture and the culture there. Amazing how big it is and yes, worth a visit.

The first time you arrive in the piazza and see the duomo up close is special. It's hard to appreciate its size and scale from looking at photos beforehand. There's plenty of restaurants and cafés around the piazza, some exspenive, some reasonable. The only downside is the many people you get approaching you tying to sell you garbage, and they... More

Sorry for being sarcastic this structure says it all of why Florence once flourished as a cultural and religious hub. All the great masters have laid their traces into this part of town and it is astonishing to see its very presence. I honestly dont feel the need to recommend this as you cant miss it.

This is basically the centre of Florence. It is abeautiful area containing the beautiful main Florence cathedral, the bell tower and the baptistry. It is always crowded with tourists. It is a must see when visiting Florence.

This was not among our expected stops when staying at Florence, but we were taken in by the enormity and beauty. We were not interested in a tour, but opted instead to take in the sight of the building from the outside and sample gelato. A must-see in the area, for sure.

Great cafes are all around the Piazza and you cannot help but love the Duomo. Great atmosphere, with some amazing buskers playing too.

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
