Started in the 16th century by Dominican friars, this is more like a museum than a perfume shop since it stocks an awesome range of perfumes, herbal elixirs and soaps based on, of all things, vinegar.

We visited the pharmacy last week while in Florence and thoroughly enjoyed it! Was a beautiful space with so much history. Purchasing was a bit confusing but we grabbed a price list and figured it out. I did some research ahead of time to find out what the top items are here and purchased a few things. I wish they... A friend suggested I visit this pharmacy. It is a very serene place and worth the visit. There are many different creams, perfumes and candles to smell and try. I ended up buying a few candles and whilst not cheap they are apparently worth the money (my friend told me she bought hers 15 years ago and still smells wonderful!).... More

I spent a whole summer here studying and never knew of this place until now! I love cosmetics and skincare in particular. I have heard very good things about the rose water toner which is extremely affordable at 14 euro (smaller one) and I have very sensitive skin so I asked which moisturizer to try. The calunda moisturizer is excellent!... More

This is really a hidden gem in Florence. I read about it and was really glad that we got to check this place out. This is one of the oldest pharmacies in the world. It is right next to Hotel Elite. You have to go to the back and the place is filled with romantic scent. There was a menu... More

We visited this perfumery because my wife loves perfume, she loved the experience from the minute she walked through the door, the interior decoration and furniture is very impressive, the skilled staff explaining and advising are very polite and helpful and make the experience special. The must be one of the most exclusive perfumeries in the world, and wife and... More

We were in florence for the day and had already planned to be shopping here. We found it fairly easily (thanks to Google maps), from the outside its deceiving and doesn't look that big, but as soon as you walk in its amazing. There is a lovely tea room inside too. The staff were busy as lots of people were... More

What a treasure trove of delightful smells and amazing products. It is worth a stop to experience the beauty of the building. The exterior is nondescript but the interior is amazing. It will be hard to resist not buying soap or lotions.

... this building has a non-descript entrance that winds pass a few displays and then opens into an elegant shopping area including a tea house situated in the original garden. A place to visit if you happen too be in the neighborhood naer the train station.

This was a fun activity for my friend and I, and informative as well. If smells get to you, forget it! if you want a little guidance and a sampling of various scents in perfumes this is the place.

Although it took us a few tries to find it, the Pharmacy de SM Novella is about 10-15 mins walk from the SM Novella train station. It's a discreet and deceptively plain ( on the outside) building until you walk through its gate. I felt that the further in i went, the more i became surrounded by the most beautiful... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
