A really fun place to spend time with a beautiful carousel, great cafes, and leather pushcarts for great bargains. Have a cappuccino or prosecco at one of the places on the square which used to be a ghetto in the 18th century.

Stayed in the Hotel Olympia for my last night in Florence, in a large room overlooking this square. Constant bustle of people and buskers, street artists, tourists and local people walking. Great place for a coffee or a beer to watch the world walk past.

On average we walked over 16 km every day while visiting Florence and decided at the end of each day to have a spritz at one of the two wonderful caffes located at Piazza della Republica and watch people. It's also located to the main shopping streets.

Great for children-carousel. Several restaurants. Just a block or two off Calzaiuoli. Nice stop for a meal or glass of wine

This is a large piazza near the up market shopping area. The square is surrounded by buildings that house a hotel and many cafes. At the time we visited there was a carousel in the square for children to ride. The piazza looks fantastic at nght with all the lights.

This is a lovely square in the centre of Florence, close to everything from shops to stores to ice cream parlours, half way between the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio, porticos along one side (post office there) and fairly expensive bars with outdoor seating for people watching or just relaxing

It's in the luxury shopping district and there are several clubs and bars/lounges that are open late. It's a nice place to sit and people watch at night for drinks at one of the (overpriced) lounges on either side of the piazza. Of note is that one of the bars is also open really late and sells cigaretttes inside, but... More

I really love the carousel for the children in this Square, so elegant and old. Funny how in a city full of art and famous statues this is the thing I loved the most when visiting the squares. It made me dream.

This square in Florence is lovely and is a great place to stop for a coffee and watch the world go by. There are sometimes buskers in the square who are all brilliant musicians and they add to atmosphere. Worth a visit even if only to just walk through.

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
