Legend has it...

So everyone knows the legend of the boar and his shiny snout from many rubs. Can be easy to miss but is right next to the leather stalls, water fountain is around the corner.

The original is in the Uffizi gallery but I always love this one more. You can rub his gold nose! Its obvious as its shinny from all the other people rubbing it! = ) Drop a coin from his mouth and hope it goes through the grating at the bottom the first time. You will be blessed with money. Also,... More

I stumbled on this statue at the end of a markets, and found it surrounded by many smiling tourists. The shining nose is an evident sign of being touched for luck, but many also placed a coin in its mouth, and let the water flow drop the coin into the trough below. It's a fun little statue, not too far... More

Nothing to write home about, but you'll definitely find yourself walking past it a least once, so you might as well rub its snout and surrender a coin so you can come back to Florence!

You cannot visit Florence without visiting the "II Porcellino" the bronze statue of a boar and touching his cold snout worn smooth by thousands of fellow tourists. It is located at the Mercato Nuovo (New Market) or Straw Market, were there has been a market since the 11th century. It’s a great place to brose between all the Leather and... More

We accidentally stumbled across the Il Porcellino which is nearly 400 years old and had to rub its shiny nose. Thankfully it was in the evening and the off season or I am sure it would have been mobbed. Imagine... it is older than the United States. That is one of the things I love about Italy!

The best market stalls are here, with the largest variety, but haggle with vendors. While the same red wallet may be at 4 different stalls, check prices. Some handbags are unique to one stall or another, but the prices are good. Gloves less of a buy. Wallets all over the lot, did not price clothes, but silk scafs were the... More

I was wandering around trying to find the wild boar bronze as I had seen it before. His snout is well polished by the amount of hands that have been on it. I saw people putting their hand in its mouth and then rubbing the snout with water from the mouth. it is worth seeking out as it is beautifully... More

Staying in Uffizi

Neighbourhood Profile
Uffizi
Every visitor coming to Florence for the first time will immediately identify with Uffizi. As in past times, passing through Via dei Calzaiuoli, you can reach the city center, the Florence that everybody dreams of. In just a few steps, visitors can experience the rare beauty of the capital of the Renaissance. walking delighted across Palazzo Vecchio and overlooking Piazza della Signoria, up to the Loggia of the Uffizi where it is possible to fully taste the talent of the best artists who animated Florence over the centuries. When the sun goes down, there’s nothing better than a walk along the river Arno up to the ancient bridge, Ponte Vecchio. It is full of jewels and decorated by the colors captured in postcards.
