It is a cute statue to take a few pictures with. Loved the idea even tough the area around the statue is a bit too commercial.

This is a bronze statue fountain of a wild boar that is something of an icon for tourism in Florence. It is a minor attraction that first time visitors to the city are taken to be shown and still something fun to see even if you've made many trips to the city over the years.

There is a legend that those that drop a coin in its mouth, which falls into grate below, will have good luck. Note that what you see today is a copy of an original bronze created by Pietro Tacca in 1634. The original is found within the Museo Stefano Bardini.

Still as beautiful as ever -
Rub his golden nose and make a wish
Been coming here since I was a child and it’s lively to see unlike most things no destruction

Nice, just put your hand on it and have a picture taken. It is, indeed, a beautiful bronze statue, and maybe this way even a wild boar might become attractive?

Incredibly crowded, even in late October, but I just couldn’t resist this touristy experience! Hope it means I’ll return to Firenze someday.

My wife and I visited Florence during an excursion on a Viking Ocean Cruise this past November. My wife went shopping in the leather market and I found Il Porcellino just outside the market. We are both graduates of the University of Arkansas, which has a Razorback hog as our mascot. We both rubbed its snout for good luck and took a selfie with the boar. Be sure to find Il Porcellino when you visit Florence and rub his snout or put a Euro in its mouth.

I nearly missed my second chance but on my last day in Firenze, I found him again❤️ The atmosphere around Porcellino is still energetic and even children placed multiple coins😂

OK, it's not a "bore" at all, it's a "boar." And not just ANY boar, it's a wild boar with magical abilities. Just rub it's nose for good luck. You could also stick a coin in it's mouth, and as magical legend has it, if the coin drops into the grate below, you shall return to Florence one day. Or you could save your coin and put it towards a future return trip ticket.

Then, have your fun photo opp and move on.

We found the boar while visiting a leather market and I am so glad we did as legend has it if you rub his nose you will return to Florence, so obviously we had to do this. With only a 2p coin in my bag I rub his nose and placed the coin in his mouth to see if I could get it to fall in the grate below, my 2p was rejected lol, next time I will make sure I have the right coin. Its lovely legend and the boar nose if shiny where it is rubbed by all the tourist that visit. Its a very crowded area but if you get a chance to look at the statue properly the detail to the bottom with the little creatures that surround him are beautiful

Neat legend (though you need to research to get the entirety), something "touristy" to do - rub the snout to 'ensure' your return to Florence. For good luck, place a coin in it's mouth and see if you can drop it into the grate.
