Our guide and driver, Stafania Meloni, was an expert guide as well as a great source of information about Italian history and culture. The 4 of use hired her for a day to take us to three wineries in Tuscany: near Montalcino, Cortona, and Montepulciano. We tasted 5-6 wines at each. Place is the place to buy wine. Owner is well spoken and knows his stuff. Very good store and well stocked.

first Melone we went to visit was kept in very bad state and it was clear that no visits are done there. Gate to the place was opened, but there was nobody... so we looked around (grass was high, not cut) and found entrance to Tumulo was closed - there were spider webs on gate, smell of wet inside and... What ever you do when you visit Cortona is to be sure to see the several Etruscan ruins. They are very close to town and worth a visit. I was impressed with the quality of the stone that is about 2500 years old.
