It's now a peaceful garden down below more recent buildings. A nice getaway from the Taormina crowds!

We walked up and down Via Naumachia on the way to and from our hotel, so we decided to take a look at the Roman wall. We weren't expecting much, and were surprised to find a little garden and lots of lovely trailing plants. It's nice to see the modern houses perched on top of a bit of ancient history.

Quite wacky to be seated next to a two thousand year old wall, but a pleasant area on a hot evening. The staff were charming and the food was excellent

Not far off the Corso, this is well worth finding, and makes a great dining spot at night (see Le Naumachie restaurant). Interesting architecture and a pleasant little garden.

The Naumachie is a bit of a misnomer, as this structure has nothing to do with mock naval battles. This 2,000 year old wall which is 122 metres long and 5 metres high with 18 large arched niches and 18 small rectangular niches, is actually a nymphaeum with a cistern behind it. The wall acts as a support for the... More

An interesting thing to see, but only due a relatively quick view. I would recommend doing it as part of a good explore of Taormina's alleyways and steps. Easy to picture it in use in historical times, but you cant get that close to explore in detail.

Not spectacular, but it is only a few steps off the Corso Umberto if you are passing and want some peace and quiet and a change from shops. What fascinated me is that a 100 yard row of modern buildings has been built supported by those ancient Roman brick arches!

A great use of the space ideal for a sit down perhaps to eat ice-cream, this garden links a good area to have a meander.

You can easily visit this oases of quietness when you are underway to the Giardini Publici, so why not turn to the left and look around? tein minutes is enough.
