The view of Mount Etna and the sea beyond is absolutely superb at Taormina's 10,000-seat ancient Greek amphitheater, which was erected in the third century BC and expanded by the Romans.

Visiting in February meant there were no crowds, about 12 or so, and the temperature was a cool 20c. Enabled us to immerse our selfs in history, and marvel at what was going on in Sicily 300 bc! Well worth a visit, especially in cooler months.

We have been horrified at the price of visiting cultural attractions in Sixily where there are no concessions for over 65s. The admission to this theatre was no exception, 10 euros each. In my view the Romans really spoilt the beauty of the Greek amphitheatre with the large brixk additions. The modern seating takes away from the stepped area. Give... More

Me and my partner decided to visit the theatre whilst on our holiday in Sicily. The theatre was outstanding and there was lots of information scattered about that you could learn more about the theatre if you wanted to. They also organised guided tours and had performances held there on certain evenings. A word of advice, there is a lot... More

We were so fortunate during our trip to catch Madame Butterfly at the theatre. The views around the theatre at night are so spectacular. It's such a great taste of history. If you are here to view an opera - do as the locals and bring a cushion for your bum. The ancient seating isn't really the most comfortable for... More

Set in a spectacular position this theater is one of the most famous Sicilian sites. Built by the Greeks, and rebuilt by the Romans. Seating capacity of 5000-ish. Much of the building material was removed by historical leaders for other purposes, but the theater still stands with enough structure to understand the history. There is a 15 minute gentle uphill... Vraiment, le meilleur, plus joli monument que nous avons trouvé en vacances en Sicile. This was the most beautiful monument we visited in Sicily, certainly it had the best views we got in the whole trip.

The ancient Greek Theotre is one of the major attractions of Taormina. It's right in the middle of the city and it's super accessible. It is very well maintained and brings you back in history! With a nice Etna view as a bonus!

Beautiful setting. Easy walk from park. You really get a feel for how it must have been. Photos in travel books are not wrong!

Most of the Greek theatre has been rebuilt in modern materials, which isn't everyone's cup of tea. I think this attraction is very overpriced but most of Taormina is and tourists should be prepared for that. We spent about 25 minutes here but it cost 10€ to enter so it isn't exactly value for money. The vistas are stunning though.
