The fountain is attractive. There is a female minotaur at the top which is a Taormina City symbol.

Most importantly it is one of few spots where water is running which you can splash over you to cool yourself on a hot day.

The fountain was built in 1635 by the Municipality of Taormina, and it became popularly known as Quattro Fontane from the four small columns placed on each corner of the monument, each with its own basin and surmounted by a seahorse from whose mouth the water flowed. Today, only one of the four seahorses is still present. There are four names engraved – Vincenzo Spuches, Vincenzo Cacopardo, Geronimo Mena and Cesare Onion. They are the representatives of the Municipality who ordered the construction of the fountain. In the center of the small basin, a pedestal supports a Centauress, with the crown on her head, who holds a scepter in her right hand and a globe with a cross in her left hand. This is a relatively small affair but is nevertheless impressive, and it is propular for local people and tourists to gravitate too.

This fountain is in Duomo Piassa and is a real part of the history of Taormina. Four elements to the exterior of the fountain and a lady perched on top.

This famous fountain is the symbol of Taormina. It stands in the middle of Piazza Duomo. It was built in Baroque style in 1635. The strange mythological creature at the top is ambiguous: maybe a centaur woman. We enjoyed the stunning view nearby. It’s a must-see sight.

Built almost 600 years ago, this Baroque marble lovely is a combination of mythological creatures and the town's coat of arms (that being the creature at the top). Sitting on the apex is a 1/2 woman and 1/2 animal (horse maybe?) creature called by some a minotaur but looking more like a centaur.

She wears a crown, holds an orb (with a cross) in one hand and in the other, what looks to be a shriveled plant but what is deemed to be a scepter; both these are symbols of power. And this creature, with a belly hanging over her animal parts lower extremities, is the symbol of the City of Taormina. Is this female or male? Or does it matter? It is ambiguous enough to go either way.

The perimeter of the fountain is surrounded by four unusual ponies with legs replaced by fins. They sit upon their curved fins atop columns at the corners of the basin.

A very imaginative piece combining mythology with who-knows-what.

This is a stunning piazza in a beautifully preserved town. The entire area with its restaurants, outdoor live music, and spectacular views of both the sea down below, and the stone structures and buildings way up high on the mountain cliffs is truly a must visit for any traveler.

This is just part of Taormina, and I loved walking around the town. This piazza just adds to the charm. Stop and rest here for a few minutes.

Rather an interesting fountain with surrounded by animal sculptures in the centre of a small square. Easily overlooked and should be part of your self tour of the main shopping street.

One of many European Fountains, but like them all, its intricate and beautiful. In a large open space, so even if crowded, there is plenty of room.
