Beautiful Fountain in the Piazza Archimede in Ortigia, Sicily
This beautiful fountain featuring Diana, a Greek goddess and protector of Ortigia, was built in 1907 and sits in the middle of the Piazza Archimede in Ortigia. You will find cafés around where you can have some food or a dolce and watch the people walk by. Great place to rest and take in life and visitors in Ortigia.

    Beautiful fountain
Contrary to the Temple of Diana in Merida, Spain, which is incorrectly named and is The Temple of Augustus, this fountain clearly shows a woman. I think there is no doubt about it’s nomenclature. Since the internet indicates it was built in 1907, it’s safe to assume that this Fountain was never intended for purposes of drinking water, etc. it’s purpose is for beautification.

    A lavish fountain
This huge, monumental fountain on the Piazza Archimede is from 1907. The central figure is the goddess Diana, the Roman equivalent of Arthemis, the protector of the ancient Greek island Ortygia. She is surrounded by other mythical figures: Arethusa and Alpheus, whose myth is connected to Ortygia and four Tritons riding four sea monsters. It is always pleasing to see that there are those willing to invest in a beautiful fountain!

    Lovely fountain.
Set in the middle of a square, the fountain is quite stunning. On a hot day you can sit by it and enjoy the lower temp there as the water cools the air. Great spot to sit a while and people watch. Couple of bars and restaurants close by.

We stayed at this property from August 8 to August 15. Once in the structure we immediately recognized a strong smell of mold due to a strong humidity in the house and bad maintenance of the wooden beams painted with simple wall paint, rather than with ad hoc treatments.

The mold recalls the presence of insects that bite and do not make sleep fulfilling.

The fact that in the room there are, talc room perfumers and insect repellents, suggests that the owners are aware of the problems of the structure and try to mask them rather than solve them concretely.

The yard is in an undignified state, abandoned, run down.
The lack of care for the surrounding environment is also evidenced by the fact that the succulents surrounding the structure are dry and dead.

In order not to miss anything, as shown in the attached photo, we found stains in the sheets traceable to what? "You don't know" why we felt entitled to ask a "second round of sheets" to the host who obviously consented.

We also complied every day with separate collection according to the municipal rules in force.

On August 14th Wednesday night, we threw the unsorted.
Not being our last day in Sicily, in the morning of August 15 we prepared lunch to take away, which is why in the room in the special baskets we left the last waste that according to the orderly would throw her.

We have been all too good not to resort to ruined holiday damage, which is governed by the tourism code.

~WIDELY NOT RECOMMENDED~

We stumbled across this beautiful and stunning fountain set amidst the heart of the old city. It is a very recent addition compared to the older buildings surrounding this piazza. We could not resist a cheeky selfie here as we were so taken with this amazing fountain

We stayed here on 04-25-24 both day and evening. After some churches were destroyed by fire in 1868, the municipality of Syracuse, in 1906, to celebrate the completion of the works for the creation of Piazza Archimede, commissioned the sculptor Giulio Moschetti to create the Diana Fountain. The work is inspired by the myth of Alphaeus and Arethusa, also linked to another symbolic place of Ortigia: the Fonte Arethusa. The sculptor from the Marche represented the nymph Arethusa, protected by her mother Diana, goddess of the hunt, as she runs away from the god Alphaeus.

This fountain is located in Piazza Archimedes in Syracuse, named after the scientist Archimedes, who was born in Syracuse. In the center is a beautiful fountain with a group of statues of the goddess Artemis and the nymph Arethusa. I learned for the first time that Archimedes was from this town.

…the Diana Fountain is located in the center of Piazza Archimede in Syracuse!!…it was built in reinforced concrete!!…you can see Diana…who is a Greek goddess!!…and also the protector of Ortigia!!…she is standing on a rock with his arms towards Arethusa as if to transform her into a fountain!!...in fact at her feet is Arethusa...with her gaze upwards!!...according to legend she transforms into a fountain to avoid the amorous insistence of Alphaeus!! …which is located to the right of Diana….as if amazed by what is happening!!…then inside the basin there are the four groups of tritons!!…and this Diana Fountain in Syracuse certainly does not go unnoticed!!…

It’s located in the centre of Ortigia, in the middle of the Piazza Archiméde. It’s a nice fountain in honor of Artemis (or Diana), the goddess of the hunt. We started our walk here. This square is very popular, lots of tourists take photos with Diana.
