The quarries were where the stone was cut to create the temple and theatre in Siracusa. The caves created are closed except for the Ear of Dionysius so its really just a pleasant walk apart from the ear.

One of the places to visit if you come to the parque archeologico. You'll find orange and palm trees and magnolias! The ear of dionysius is right next to it.

While visiting the Greek Theater of Syracuse, walk down to the Latomia. This is a former quarry, whose most famous sight is the Ear of Dionysos. But it is a cool and pleasant walk among a Dantesque scenery of stones.

Yet another sight that, on its own, isn't hugely impressive. However, it is part of a bigger complex that, all taken together, is well worth the trip. The individual parts should not be identified individually on Tripadvisor - it is misleading.

As already noted, a lot of the 'garden' seems to be blocked off, as of 3 March 2015. It was pleasant enough, given we had gone to see the Greek Theatre mostly and it was in with the entrance cost of the Archaeological Park as...More

As others have said, much of the gardens have been blocked off. Perhaps in-season "paradise" looks more lush and beautiful.

Syracuse is known as one of the best cities in Sicily and the Neapolis Archaeological Park is thought as one of the most impressive sites in Syracuse. Unfortunately, I was quite let down by the entire park. The Latomia del Paradiso was really not as...More

Half of it was closed, with no explanation. We only happened on the catcombs at the far end by chance the day after our visit to the archeological park, when we left the car to visit the museum.

The Gardens of Paradise are part of the Parco Archeologico della Neapolis - same entry ticket - cost euro9-00. The main attraction is the cave or grotto which is supposed to have good acoustics. This may be the case if you could visit it on...More

A great garden that provided sume respite from the hot sun. But much of it was closed and there was little explanation given. Would have liked some more information – apart from my Lonely Planet guidebook.
