Tremendously well-informed English speaking guide. Historical information about how the catacombs were cleared of corpses to provide a bomb shelter during WWII was fascinating!

This is one of the many excellent facets of history in Syracuse. The visits are arranged in tours by a guide who gives you an explanation. Worth seeing in its own right, but excellent as part of a visit to the museum and Neapolis.

So much more than I imagined! The catacombs were large, intricate and cool (a great relief on a hot day!). The 30 minute tour in English was so worth it. Recommended!

Although most of the slabs have been removed, (marble has been valuable from ancient times) just wandering through the labyrinth of the catacombs is worth, but the highest reward are the old paleochristian frescoes. Visit is guided both in italian and english and very instructive

If you want some fresh air when it's roasting outside, then this is the perfect place in Siracusa! It's even better if you take a jumper with you. The guided tour was very interesting and the guide was nice and speaked perfectly English.

Informative tour, great cool place to hide from the heat. Hard to find, it's just to the right in front of a kids playground. Very much worth the entry price of €8, tour is 35-40 minutes in English and italian.

We found these early Christian underground tombs, converted from Greek aquaducts, fascinating. Quite unlike anything I'd seen elsewhere, the tour guide (compulsory - it's a labyrinth and you can't wander solo) was well informed and gave commentary in both Italian and English. We found it...More

Simply the best attraction in Syracuse, bar none (and so much better than the half-closed Neapolis ten minutes away). The catacombs are just amazing, the guide is knowledgeable and informative (in English and Italian) and I challenge anyone not to feel moved by the sheer...More
