This large baroque church dominates Piazza dell'Olivella, built in the 1600s but actually completed in the following century, with the construction of the dome, the two bell towers, the staircase, and part of the internal decoration. Externally it is appreciated not only for the imposing façade but above all for the architectural richness of the latter, the two bell towers and the dome. The interior, as expected, is large in size, divided into 3 naves by 12 powerful columns of gray marble (five bays with as many chapels on each side), with a large transept, cross dome and presbytery. While not bordering on excess, the baroque decoration is rich and elegant at the same time, starting from the marble floor of various colors, then the vault of the central nave and the transept with the numerous panels of biblical episodes painted by Antonio Manno, the valuable geometric decorations of the vaults of the side naves, the stucco sculptural groups along the entire entablature, the stuccos between the arches and the paintings of the arches. And then the chapels: all valuable, with paintings or statues and various monumental tombs also of notable aesthetic effect; you can find, among others, paintings by Pietro Novelli and Sebastiano Conca; some of them excel over the others for their decorative richness, such as the second chapel on the right, characterized by a riot of mixed marbles, or the fifth and third on the left for their pomp and preciousness (if in the fifth there is a painting by Sebastiano Conca, in the third is a notable seventeenth-century wooden crucifix). In the presbytery, apart from the altarpiece by Sebastiano Conca surmounted by a splendid Gloria in stucco, the marble statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul by Ignazio Marabitti cannot escape the sides of the altar (on the side walls there are then, within niches, the four stucco statues of the evangelists).

Also called Olivella church, the church of St. Ignatius is another baroque pearl of the city of Palermo.
In the heart of the historical center, not far from Via Roma, this church is a landmark.
I visited in the day, very wide and rich in works of art, in the evening lighting makes this spectacular church much more beautiful. The small square below is a wide sequence of pubs and restaurants, a lively place full of people at any hours. This church is a must to visit, to be it here is a cultural experience.

Despite not shining, all in all this church is interesting, 3 minutes walk from the Teatro Massimo, right in front of it as the crow flies.
Well maintained, behind the fine facade it offers pleasant and balanced interiors.
Considering the central location I think it can easily be placed among the things to see.
