- travelasacouple185 contributionsWorth itWent with my husband, his reason was because of the Godfather film, mine was because it looked amazing in the photos I saw on here. Cost €10 each and for half an hour it was fair. Guide spoke very good English, she split us up between Italian and English and did make us laugh as at one point she had done her Italian speech and was on to us for the English part. One Italian man started talking so she told him to shush. Practise was going on so we got to hear them for a short while. And she gave us a lot of information. The Nutcracker was on at Christmas and would loved to have seen it here. Well worth a visitVisited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 March 2023
- travelbob1New Windsor, New York1,135 contributionsAn Exterior VisitWe opted to pass on the inside tour after some others told us the cost was not worth the short tour given in two languages. Instead we walked the exterior and still found this to be well worth the time to visit. In addition to the structure the plaza and neighborhood and the two kiosks at each end of the plaza are to be noted.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 April 2023
- 77audreycConcord, Massachusetts17 contributionsTour worth the effort. This tour is worth it to have the opportunity to see inside the theater. It's beautiful. The tour was brief, but worth the effort. Our tour guide wasn't inspired, but gave us the information needed to understand the history of the theater. While visiting the royal box and the floor of the theater we were able to see rehearsals of an upcoming production! It would be such a shame to miss the beauty of the interior of such a building.Visited May 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 June 2023
- Ros0604London, United Kingdom290 contributionsNot wowedQuite nice, but not the most spectacular opera house. Short tour. The dual language was well managed, with Italian and English speaking groups encouraged to have a wander, take photos etc while the other group heard about the building and its history. Nothing like as good as the Palazzo Conte Federico we visited in the morning.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 September 2023
- CynicorenBeersheba, Israel2,577 contributionsImpressive but not well maintainedWe visited with a tour guide. The building is very impressive, the tour is pretty short (about 30 minutes), the tour guide was very nice. There are small art exhibitions in a main room (with the ceiling that reminds Florence). On the other hand, the building is not maintained well enough, as spots of water are seen in the halls - probably because of the humidity, and, well, bad maintenance.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 23 September 2023

- Oliver SNew York City, New York11,416 contributionsThe tour not worth itOk, it might be the third largest theater in Europe, but the tour is not worth it. It’s hot, not particularly clean, covered with a solid layer of dust, requires a lot of stairs climbing (lifts are kept locked up) and the lights in the actual seating areas are kept very low, perhaps to hide fading velvet on the seats? The backstage walk is an absolute mess and the whole experience is quite poor. I suggest you stick to that one scene in Godfather III where Al Pacino’s daughter is shot on the stairs of this theater, it’s enough to remember it. **Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 2 October 2023
- Guglielmo L38 contributionsMust See Theater In Palermo! The Teatro Massimo is very impressive! It's similar to La Scala in Milan, which I have also visited. The tour guide was a very friendly young lady. I can't remember her name, but she gave the tour in both English and Italian and I think she did a great job! She even told us that there is a legend of the ghost of a nun who haunts the building and tries to trip visitors on the steps, but fortunately that didn't happen to me or anyone else who was on the tour with me! Definitely a must see when you go to Palermo!Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 29 October 2023

Decent Tour - Dual language so all information was repeated twice - English was always 2nd. This meant the French part of the group were first to enter the rooms to explore. The building is super impressive and we were lucky to visit during a rehearsal that animated the space.

Stunning theatre. Tour is fairly brief and we were on a dual language tour so the guide had to repeat everything. But there was a rehearsal going on which was an unexpected bonus and brought the theatre to life.

We had orchestra tickets and it was the very best way to see this gorgeous theatre versus a tour. If you can do it, get tix to any music event there and book seats in the plush seats on the main floor versus in the upstairs balconies and revel in the super acoustics. It's a gorgeous, old building with an intimate and cozy setting which surprised us considering we've been to LaScala in Milan, the Met in NY and several other famous theatres around the world. It was lovely!

Do they have disable facility like lift to avoid steps up front, or disable toilet?

Does the cafe in Teatro Massimo have breakfast fare? Thanks!

Normally a croissant or muffin and cappuccino or espresso is available - opposite are a couple of hotels you could try out for a continental breakfast and down the street are dozens of little bars and cafes serving mini pizzas and hot dogs and of course Sicilian breakfasts of brioche and ice cream! A must have with freshly squeezed orange juice and pomegranate at one or two catching onto new desire for other fresh fruit juices. Enjoy!!

Do the "high" chairs (seats 4-6) in the boxes have footrests of any kind?

Thanks for your review. I am trying to book tickets for a ballet at the theater and would appreciate any info you can offer regarding the pros and cons of the various seating areas. I have read that the back seats 4-6 in the boxes are not good and that the views from the boxes that are sideways to the stage and not very good either. Where did you sit for your opera, and where would you suggest?

We sat at the side. If the stage is North, we sat South West. First row in a box. Third level. Good view of the stage. Hope this helps.
