The Madonie Natural Park includes some of the highest mountain ranges in Sicily located between Palermo and Cefalu. We visited this park in winter and the location was covered in snow. The region comprises a number of municipalities Castelbuono, Petralia Soprana and Sottana whcih are also worth visiting.

We did the circular trail which includes the small grove of giant holly trees (the agrifogli).
It was in late November, cold and very windy, but exhilarating.
At one point we reached a peak from which you could see the sea and some 180 degrees landscape, and feel you need to put stones in your pockets for fear of being blown away.
The trail then goes down to a lovely meadow which felt like catharsis.
Highly recommended, and quite an easy trail if you climb your way slowly. It took us about 2 hours.
The trail is mostly unmarked, except for a few signs, but you can use Wikiloc to follow other hikers. If you happen to pass through Cefalu, there's an information office for the Madonie park on the main street with nice people to help you.

We visited Parco delle Madonie in Spring. Flowers everywhere. Beautiful medieval villages on the top of the hills. Quiet, not may tourist. We made long walks, for example from Caragi Siculo to Petralia Sottana. Beautiful walk, lots of scenic variety.

We drove from Milazzo down to Enna through the Parc and it was stunning. The road quality is very poor so take it steady but it is spectacular.

After the hustle and bustle of Sicilian cities this is a lovely relaxing and quiet area to visit with forests and mountains and cows with bells on! The roads are about the norm for rural Sicily but the traffic is light so driving is easy. The little towns are best explored on foot as they were built before the motor car arrived but you can do an all day circular trip from Cefalu with a stop en route for lunch.

Hello
I hope someone can advise on hiking in Parco Madonie in Sicily. We are going there next week and found a map on the Internet which seems to show several possible footpaths on dirt tracks starting from Petralia Sottana (where we’re staying). Could anyone confirm if really are off-road and not tarmac? And how easy is it to detour from these dirt-tracks to a road where there might be a café for lunch? Many thanks

Bonjour

Hi! We’re visiting the park at the end of May, is there a bus that takes you to anywhere central within the park from Palermo?
Any good places to stay on Air BnB close to places of natural beauty??
Thanks,
Norton

Andando in pieno inverno (dicembre -gennaio) quali attività è possibile svolgere?
Written 16 September 2016
Puoi sciare a Piano Battaglia.
