Great big market full of fresh fruit and vegetables, spices, delis. Busy atmosphere with stall owners yelling and people everywhere. Really good experience. Also good place to buy food, prices are cheap

We had seen the other main markets before this and most of the produce, fish, and other goods looked quite similar. We then entered a place where there were murals and very quickly felt unsafe and came upon so much trash everywhere and seedy looking people rooting through dumpsters. This was a huge turn off, we could not wait to... More

My wife and I visited Mercato Ballaro on a random Wednesday and it was rainy and overcast but the vendors were open and ready for business. Its worth a visit but I was not impressed over Mercato del Capo. We only walked through and didn't haggle much about buying from vendors but it had plenty to choose from.

At Ballaro market you can see and feel real South Italian spirit. Fresh vegetables and fruits everywhere, lot's of scooters passing, street food and spices.

Worst meal of a 6 week trip. Ordered pasta bianca with salmon and was served chopped meat... there were TWO dishes with SAME name!! They were reluctant to correct so we let it go. Pizza was overpriced and tasted very cheap. Souvenirs looked like they were all 'made in China', lowest quality one might imagine. May be good place for... More

If you want a huge variety of food, spices, cheap clothes and accessories, this is definitely the right market for you. Our hosts told us more about the other 2 (vucchiara and capo). The first one is great at night time for its street food and the second one quieter and smaller than ballaro. If you want a mix of... More

You could almost find anything in this market: from souvenirs to fish; from wine to cheeses ! Prices are affordable. The best thing about it, is the authenticity of the people, their screams, their bids, their laughter and the fusion of colors :)

I was in Palermo for eight days, and for several of those days prepared my own meals with fresh, wonderful and very affordable ingredients I bought at this market. What was best too, is that it was only a few blocks from where I stayed. Perfect! The market has everything from seafoods of all sorts, to fresh vegetables and produce,... More

I loved it and went several times as it was not far from where we were staying. I bought eggs, tomatoes, olives, cheeses, butter. Enjoyed watching all the "action". We also took the walking food tour, and our guide brought us here so we learned where to get fabulous arrancina (sp?) and the best olives. It may make some people... More
