Dirty and sometimes filthy, full of shops and fast food that instead of enhancing it have made it almost a bad place. Dilapidated buildings and many shutters lowered and badly reduced. Really a bad business card for Palermo that in the last 30 years has only gotten worse. Disappointment.

We had our apartment here and surprisingly it's an interesting street, shop owner set up tables and chairs on the street so people can dine/drink outside. Local vendors will pull up with their cart and sell stuff (hats, sun glasses, earrings, bags, toys and etc) the whole night.

This street is like connection to everywhere, walk south to the Quinto Canto and Quattro Canti, Fontana Pretonia (Fountain of Shame), walk North to the Teathor Massimo. From Quinto Canto walk straight up to visit Cattedrale di Palermo.

Shopping and lots of good restaurant along side or just by walking distance.

This is a good route to use to get through the old city. It is mostly pedestrian, not noisy although quite busy. Shops and fast food eateries rule the street but overall entertaining.

This street is really nice for walking. There are a lot of churches. And the four corners are pretty awesome. It feels very safe.

A must to see in Palermo! This street is centrally located it is difficult to miss. Usually closed to cars, just official cars are allowed. At night is crowded with people strolling around, there are several bars and restaurants e police is everywhere!

I guess most interest is centered on the intersection at the Quattro Canti and the nearby Piazza Pretoria and historic churches, while further along you will arrive at Teatro Massimo. There are many other historic buildings along the route plus the shops and restaurants. The section between the Teatro and the Quattro Canti is pedestrian only during the day.

Very commercial, with slightly less tourist emphasis than Via Vittorio Emanuele. Cheaper eateries, shops catering to locals as well as tourists, walk it on your way to the theatre

Via Maqueda is the classic tourist street full of bars, pastry shops, shops within reach of tourists and from this street you can visit a large part of the center of Palermo.
In short, a strategic route with important economic value for businesses.

Vía Maqueda is one of the main streets in the historic center of Palermo. The Quattro Canti area is where it gets too crowded. We can find bars, restaurants and businesses of all kinds as we walk through it.

Very busy street full of clubs and shops but also rich in period buildings.
Here you can eat all the traditional Sicilian dishes at great prices. Recommended
