Spoke to the armed guard who advised that we could visit free of charge. The hike up hill is not for the faint hearted but the views certainly make it worthwhile. I thoroughly enjoyed the views and a short visit inside to see tomb of a WW1 soldier and the lovely basilica plus some stained glass.

It's a trek of some proportion with lots of steps to get to the church but believe me the views alone are well worth the effort.
5 Euros to tour but as it was a Sunday, some sort of local service was in progress and we weren't able to enter and puruse as much as we wanted. Nevertheless it was wonderful experience.

The drive is not for the faint hearted we complemented our coach driver! The view over the city was spectacular but we were not given time to enter. The bell standing at the side looked enormous but in the short time we had it did not ring, Be aware of pedlars and Beggars either in or outside attractions

Visited during a open top bus tour and stopped off for a tour, it was a Sunday afternoon and unfortunately the gates were locked this didn’t stop us exploring the exterior which is impressive and has amazing views over the port and the straits of Messina.

We visited the Tempio Votivo di Cristo Re in Messina, whilst on a one day stopover. We were doing a self-guided walking tour armed with a fairly basic tourist map and had climbed up to the memorial via the ‘Vialle Bocetta’. Initially we thought that the building was a church or Duomo but we subsequently found out that it is in fact a memorial to Italian soldiers killed in action whilst defending Sicily during World War two. The walk up here from the harbour is quite a climb especially in the afternoon sun and if this is a problem, it is also possible to get here using the tourist busses or ‘Dotto; trains which call by.
On the day of our visit, the memorial was closed however from this area it is possible to get some spectacular panoramic views over the town of Messina and indeed the straits all the way to mainland Italy, the journey up here is worth it just for the views.
We spent some time here before returning back down to the town and there is a nice bar serving drinks and cool refreshments for the thirsty visitor.
If you are visiting the port of Messina, make sure that you make the effort to visit the site if only for the views.

A peaceful, simple and evocative memorial to those Italian soldiers who lost their lives in the allied attack on Messina. Go to reflect on the impact of war not just to look at the view of the town and harbour.

A lot of history in the building but have to read about it online. They do not provide any English literature.

This is a nice stop to get the panoramic view of Messina. The memorial itself is impressive but the main reason most tourists stop here is probably the photo op.

This building incorporates both a church and a memorial for the fallen soldiers of Messina. Although we were unable to do so on the day we visited we understand it is possible to visit the memorial although the church itself it not often open.
There are also fabulous views if you cross the street down to the water below
