The surrounding buildings shape this square

The massive church with its spectacular doors and the oversized belltower give this square a mighty feel. Its different in a good way.

This church has a piazza when you walk out the back door, with a fountain and a bell tower. The inside of the church is absolutely beautiful with a very long aisle. Beautiful altar. Also has a little store and museum. The store offers lots of religious items.

Sat in a local cafe before the main event of the day, enjoyed the view and the solitude before the hoards arrived!

An excellent Duomo that was restored in 1908. High wooden ceilings dominate. The bell tower and astronomical clock is adjacent. There is not much else to see in Messina

A busy Piazza awaits those who come to visit the Cathedral in the heart of Messina. We were only able to enjoy the exterior, it was closed at the time we were there. Usually we have better luck. But that area was still alive with tourist and some sellers of wares who move quickly and pull up their blanket or... More

Another very nice Italian Duomo. Piazza del Duomo is almost always full of tourists and souvenir sellers. You should also visit the inside of the Duomo. It is a Messina must-see.

Being a port city Messina is a bit rough around the edges but there a few gems to be found, the best one in my opinion is Piazza del Duomo.Despite being rebuilt after the earthquake of 1908. The duomo itself is well worth a visit but the masterpiece for me is the Bell Tower with its beautifull gold figures on... More

I rode the train up from Catania early in the day and spent the day walking around Messina. A Cruise ship was there that day which made it a little more touristy than I normally like but, the city was very nice. The church would have been worth the trip alone. Make sure to walk up the tower to see... More
