about 60 (!!!) people in some of the workshop (every workshop was totaly over crowded) and many of the teacher did not speak english and had not much interest in teaching; there where two places, where the milongas happened. on one it was impossible to turn without ruining your knees.
the level of the dancers was not very high, there where nearly no non-italian people.
but the second milonga was near the beach, a beautiful place and there where a lot of dancers. even to dance into the rising sun was great.

Trying to get information out of the organisers before the festival was difficult - for me, as an English-speaker, there was a clear language barrier and they didn't seem particularly interested in bridging the gap. Catania Tango is definitely not as international as other festivals, to the extent that I had to leave one of the classes which was only in Italian. Having said that, you can learn a lot by watching these incredible teachers alone and this only happened once.
The free practicas were good, but the venues overall were poor: bad floors, outdoors so no air circulating, and the one by the sea cost an incredible 20 euro to get there and it's less than 10 minutes in a taxi. They claimed to have agreed discounts with a certain taxi company but if this is the case I dread to think what the journeys would cost.

Floor with irregularities and lack of cleanliness, a well-known local tango school made sure that acquaintances danced, criticizing other dancers, transforming what should have been a meeting in favor of the tango guests into unlikely dancers " friends". For me it was an opportunity, together with my partner, to consolidate what we have studied in my first 10 years of tango.
