- Reeferman64Solihull, United Kingdom1,011 contributionsNice but expensive boat lovers dream. The area is lovely but not a great deal to do unless you are a boat lover, the area is expensive due to the clientele it attracts. Some nice views and the beaches are nice, and there is plenty to see if you have a car and you dont mind driving. The supermarkets if you are self catering are reasonable especially for the local beers and wines, there is a nice deli counter in them too, that is also selling some pre cooked food. To eat and drink out is expensive everywhere in Sardinia, you will get little change out of £60 for a couple of mains and a glass of wine/beer each, unless you can live on Pizza.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 October 2023

We had no car but were able to access several beaches and sights by bus. There was plenty to keep us entertained for a week. Despite this it would have been easier to use a car. I would like to return.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 14 June 2024

We visited Sardinia in June 2018. The town of Porto Rotondo is an excellent option to base on exploring Costa Smeralda. The town is pretty, clean, and has a very nice atmosphere. It has a beautiful harbour promenade nice to walk along during sunset and evening. Although Costa Smeralda area is expensive, is the best place to stay in the north east of Sardinia if you are looking for beautiful beaches, nice restaurants, luxury and glam, otherwise avoid Porto Rotondo and Porto Cervo. My advise to those traveling no more than one week is staying in one place and visiting the closest beaches, where you can find turquoise waters and all the services (beach chairs, umbrella, shower, restaurants). We loved Ira Beach, Liscia Ruja, Pevero and Rena Bianca, my favourites. We also visited Cala Gonone, Cala Brandinchi and Lu Impostu out of Costa Smeralda, since I have read good comments about them; to my point of view the beaches are beautiful but always packed and services there are not good so they I wouldn't give them a try if you are not staying close. The food was good in every restaurant but nothing very special, which was a let down considering we were in Italy. One restaurant we enjoyed very much near Porto Rotondo was Lu Stazu, a fixed menu of Sardinian specialties, very good food. To conclude, Porto Rotondo is a quieter place than Porto Cervo, both in Costa Smeralda, better for families, but still on the high-end side, and Costa Smeralda is THE place to stay if budget allows when visiting the north east of Sardinia.

We recently visited Porto Cervo and hated it. That town was built entirely for the mega rich and the whole place felt so fake.
Porto Rotondo, however, felt so much more natural and not fake. We went out for a coffee and had a nice drink and wandered around town for a bit. There isn't loads to do there, with most of the shops being middle to higher price independent or chain boutiques. The church and marina were both nice to see though.
We visited on a monday morning and it was eerily quiet until about 15:00 when we saw a few other people walking around, but on the most part, it was incredibly sleepy.
I'd recommend Porto Rotondo if you're just wanting half a day off of a beach and a chance to walk around a small town for a few hours and have some food or a coffee.

We stopped off on our tour of the coast and strolled around the little village and marina. Spotlessly clean, some spectacular yachts moored in the marina. Beautiful and unusual church. Very picturesque area, good parking but couldn't find any public toilets which meant we didn’t stay long. If there are some they need signposted to visitors.

During our 2 weeks stay in Sardinia we visited a few different places on the North East and West costs. We did find Porto Rotondo a bit too touristic to our tasty where there was a lack of authenticity. Most or even all restaurants are expensive and are sort of tourist trap. So if you want to get a real good feel to Sardinian food you'd better search for an agriturismo more into the country side.

We really didn't love this place and felt that it was trying to be something it's not. There are certainly lots of fantastic boats moored here but the town itself is mainly new and of no real beauty. The restaurants are overpriced and not great as far as we could tell. Views of harbour fab, atmosphere and town, poor. We won't be going back to this part of Sardinia when there are so many other beautiful and authentic places to visit on the island.

Traveled here by bus (from the stop opposite the Jazz hotel). If you do not have a car, and you want to go onto one of the nearby beaches, there is a shuttle bus that runs free of charge from the main through road. It's quite a pretty place to spend half a day, the marina is lovely, and there are lots of interesting walkways with shops and cafes that surround it,

We were very impressed about this small village, especially the harbor area and in our opinion is better then Porto Cervo because looks more affordable for regular people.

Ventilato e l’acqua un po’ fredda. Poi dipende dal tempo, in compenso c’è poca gente.

Hello! Am booking a holiday to Sardinia and have found a villa near the centre of Porto Rotondo. Just wondering if it gets noisy at night?

Grazie in anticipo
