The monument to the Sailor is dedicated to all sailors of the Italian Navy and is located near the castle, over the bridge. It is made of bronze and is about seven meters tall. The monument is positioned to greet the boats that sail the nearby waters.

Contrary to city's classic (and run down) environment, this is a very modern sculpture. It represents mariners waiving with joy for the passing vessels.
It's set at the corner across the Aragonese Castle where two promenades (Lungomare and Due Mari) meet. It's just a quick photo op with some nice views around.

Beautiful monument / sculpture to the sailor by Vittorio di Cobertaldo ( year 1974 ) . Taranto center near the Aragonese Caste . I suggest you tour also around this area 👌

Near the harbour and near the bridge at the end of a long walk along the water. Just beyond a large square with antique lighting decorating the square and overlooking the anchored ships.

In a land where so much of what is interesting is old--centuries old, it is nice to see an effective modern monument, and this one is placed very photogenically near the sea.

These lovely statues adorn the waterfront pavement in the bay area.
There's plenty of room to snap your picture against these imposing pieces of art.

Fascinating and extremely quirky statue in central Taranto. Truly a great photo opportunity and not to be missed if in the area.

This modern sculpture is perhaps supposed to be one of sailors throwing their caps in the air on graduation. It dominates the lungomare. There is little that can be said about it.

It’s good for a photo because it’s near the castle, but you can’t miss the oil refinery in the background and the oil tankers in the sea.

The Monumento al Marinaio is a great place to just stand and stare and watch the world go by. Look one way down the Lungomare, one way out to sea with the ships waiting to enter the commercial port. Over that side is the Castello Aragonese and over there is the swing bridge1 The statue is great and certainly makes a statement, I liked it. Other reviews comment on litter and graffiti, I saw none in the area around the statue.....everything was tip top. Great place to stop and take photos.
