The Brindisi Basilica stands on the Duomo (Cathedral) Square in the very center of old town. Around it, on the square are other significant buildings such as Archbishop seat, Library and Hospital.
It was built at the end of 11 and beginning of 12 c.
The Basilica served as a pilgrimage place for Crusaders who departed and returned from Holy Land, as Brindisi was always a very important port town.
Entry is free, inside is not the most lavish one, but certainly worth a visit.

This cathedral, dedicated to Teodosio was built originally nearly 1000 years ago but it was nearly destroyed by an earthquake 300 years ago and partially by the allied bombing in 1944. It has been reconstructed with a mixed style and it is attractive, especially for the nice square housing the archbishop palace.

Beautiful and a round the corner from our accommodation. It seems to be constantly open. There is a skeleton relic but I don't know who it's supposed to belong to. We went in to take a look one night and an Itslian lady started talking to us and directing us to the relic. She knew we didn't understand but was still enthusiastic. I'm an atheist but I love religious buildings. I was able to walk from our apartment to the cathedral in my bare feet on the evening. It was lovely. Keep going through the cathedral and you arrive at stairs taking you down to the sea front. Not a beach but lots of lovely bars/restaurants to get a cocktail and food at :)

Honesty Brindisi has a lot of work to do as the town outside of the center is not welcoming at all and looks dodgy.
The cathedral is probably one of the few reasons to visit Brindisi as it is massive, quite hidden inside the old town. Superbly decorated outside and inside.

This place has really touched my heart. The piazza outside and the buildings and the column in the centre are very beautiful and special, almost magical, in the night and impressive in the day. Watch out for cars, crossing piazza from different directions, though.

The Pontificia Basilica Cattedrale is a church located within the small old town open square. A beautiful old façade, crypt, massive columns with high ceilings and intricately designed stained glass windows. There were also old paintings along the walls. Make a quick peak inside when passing through this small, old town.

Its worth the visit knowing that it houses the sacred remains of Saint Theodore of Amasea co-parton with San Lorenzo of Brindisi, and all the Crusaders and pilgrims coming through Brindisi on their way to the Holy Land. ( the original was built in 1089, of which the mosaic floor survived)
