The Sailor's Monument stands on the northern side of Brindisi bay.
Have in mind the old town is on the other (southern) side and the bay is pretty long, so you need significant time to reach it and there's nothing else to do around it.
Therefore, we went there first with our rented car, free parking around.
The Monument is built in a shape of a giant rudder, 53 met high. It's made of reinforced concrete, covered in golden color local Carparo stone. Architecture is brutalist which was pretty popular when it was built in 1930's. It's built to commemorate around 6000 sailor casualties in WWI.
The Monument consists of two parts.
At its base is a high vaulted Chapel shrine dedicated to those sailors with famous battles inscribed, as well samples of sea water from all oceans. That part is free.
Climbing the top is not free any more and costs around 4 Euros, cannot remember correctly, by an elevator and few flights of steps after it. From up there you have excellent 360' views of entire town and area.

I was on the other side of the post and did not have time to cross. But from a distance it looked beautiful, imposing and at night the lighting was perfect

An honor for sailors who died at war and a symbol of Mussolini s time. Although it remindes sad period and italian losses, it represents also the end of fighting and a holy period when it was finished. It menas a lot for the city and the people who live there. Simple and meaningfull. Good experience.

The Monument to Italian Sailors (“lu monumentu” as its known by residents) looks impressive, though close-up it is seems smaller than its 54 metres. It stands out historically as well as physically as one of Mussolini’s distinctive monuments; it was he who commissioned it to commemorate the fallen Italian sailors of WWI. Their names are carved in the chapel as also the fallen sailors from WWII.

Although this monument is devoted to sailors, we cannot forget that this building was made under Mussolini. The pictures display the history of the building. The entry is free [donation is welcome] but you have to submit your ID or passport.

Recommend visiting. Free of charge but if you are from outside Italy you need photo ID. there is an elevator that goes most of the way to the top. Best view of Brindisi.

An impressive sight from across the bay. Stands out majestically. Free entrance to go in and up on the top. Pity we did not have time.

Captures the imagination. We didn't have time to go in or up it, but it was certainly the main item for a photo shoot. Something completely different.

We walked to this monument around the bay. Took as an hour but worth the exercise. You can catch the bay ferry for 1 Euro (good value).
The attraction is free but you must have ID. Passport or Driving License. We had neither but the concierge allowed us to go up after we spent some time explaining who we were.
Read the information boards. A good visit aNd fantastic views of the whole of Brindisi from the top.
If you don’t visit anywhere else visit here.

We took the little boat to this monument and then walked up to the top of the tower. It was worth it. However, we then walked back to the other side of the water way wanting to see the Castello, That wasn’t worth it, mostly walking on streets.
