Dedicated to Saint Sabinus, Canosa bishop whose relics were brought here in the 9th century and stored in the crypt. It was constructed between the late 12th and 13th centuries and built on Imperial Byzantine ruins.
It seemed somewhat austere to me although it was well lit during my visit and was refurbished in the 18th century. The usual collection of religious artifacts is here, some dating back many years. It just seems tired- maybe another facelift?

In the hart of old city, the cathedral built over the original Byzantine church. the Cathedral of San Sabino is the only church in the old city that can boast an imposing bell tower. Nice crypt in the crypt are preserved the relics of Saint Sabinus, the bishop of Canose, next to the crypt II Succorpo della Cattedrale di Bari. This museum beneath the cathedral reveals well-preserved remnants of an ancient basilica and various Roman ruins.
Entrance fee 3€, but on my visit on Sunday not collected, maybe due to the mass to start soon.

Interestingly, it is the cathedral of the city, dedicated to St. Savino, not the church of St. Nicholas. With a ticket one can see various points of the church, interesting is the crypt with the image of Odigetria and the oldest church, found under the present and is visible underground. A bit expensive tickets, although there are several options, depending on what everyone wants to see. Very nice spot the square in front of the cathedral, for eating and walking.

Beautiful cathedral in the historic center of Bari. Built in 1300, the structure is in Romanesque style, the large rose window emerges from the simple white facade. Internally very simple and with three naves. There is also a crypt to visit.

We stayed here on 16-08-24 and during the walk, we arrived in front of the beautiful cathedral of
Bari. The Cathedral of San Sabino, real official name, dates back to 1.100 and is the episcopal seat of the Catholic Archdiocese of Bari-Bitonto. -It has three naves separated by two rows of eight columns in Byzantine style. Above the arches, with large three-light windows, there are fake matrons. The floor in the nave there are remains of polychrome marble, with a rose reproducing the design of that of the facade. The Crypt and the Archaeological Area below must be visited to see the “basoli”, floor of the ancient Via Traiana, the mosaic of Timothy, the remains of a Byzantine church the vaults of the succule dating back to a very ancient pillar building. Last but not least, there is the Diocesan Museum of Exultet which houses a rich collection of artifacts from the churches of the old city. To visit

The façade is beautiful, white, with a rosette surmounted by fantastic animals. Inside, one is struck by the very beautiful columns separating the 3 naves and on the ground the marble marquetry in the form of a rosette. You should definitely look in the crypt at the virgin ODEGETRIA , a beautiful icon where Jesus holds a small bird. Admission fee €7.

It is the Cathedral of Bari, the bishop's seat, dating back to the 12th century. It was built on the ruins of a previous Byzantine place of worship. Of Apulian Romanesque style, starting from the 18th century it underwent renovations, demolitions and renovations in Baroque style. In 1950 an attempt was made to restore the original Romanesque style in the interior furnishings. Worth a visit

Sometimes tourists concentrate on the Basilica of San Nicola and ignore the Cathedral. That would be a mistake. This fine Romanesque cathedral features an austere exterior and a majestic interior. Do not forget to go down to the crypt which is beautifully decorated.
