The villa is still family-owned (as you can see from the cute family photos on some of the tables or desks, but also from centuries-old paintings of past members of the same family). This probably saved the frescos by Tiepolo (father and son) as they are very well preserved by the family and have vibrant colors as if they had been painted yesterday. Very elegant villa with distinct rooms each having its own theme or atmosphere. We visited with a tour guide specializing on Tiepolo and that made a huge difference as there is a clear artistic choice, and therefore meaning, made in each room. The path in front of the villa is not a public road so we did have to walk about 10 minutes from the point where we got dropped off on the street. Formal gardens are laid out between the villa's buildings with great views onto the gardened valley below the villa.

A short distance from the other beautiful Villa (the one called “La Rotonda), but more easily accessible by public transport (a small parking lot).
The dwarfs referred to are those represented by the stone sculptures on the wall (a legend states that a daughter of the owners was a dwarf and, out of shame, they never let her out of this dwelling and took all dwarfs as service personnel (so as not to make her feel “different”.
The extraordinary and above all the uniqueness of this Villa (and of the guesthouse) lies in the extraordinary path between its rooms completely frescoed by the Tiepolos (Giambattista the father and Giandomenico the son)
The frescoes in the Villa are linked to classical and mythological themes (The Sacrifice of Ifigenia, Roger Freeing Angelica, etc.); those in the guesthouse represent moments of life.
You can only make one comment: gorgeous! Must-see places.

Beautiful Villa near the most famous "La Rotonda" but no less beautiful. It has the advantage of having been frescoed by Gianbattista Tiepolo and his son Giandomenico. Outside and present a small parking lot, guided tours are only on Sundays, overall worth a visit

Villa less known than the famous Rotonda but still certainly worth a visit, both for its architecture and decorations (even if sometimes excessive). It overlooks the Valley of Silence, which already from its name conveys a sense of serenity. Very little parking next to the entrance.

Ticket for 4 people 40€. 5 rooms open to visitors with well-kept frescoes and small garden. Visit time with Wikipedia reading of explanations 15 min. Paid guide or extravagant plastic sheet. It seems to me that the approach to the visit needs to be reviewed, too expensive in absolute terms for what was offered.

We spent a special event with family and friends. It was an exquisite experience, with the best of art, culture, atmosphere and dinner. Veronica' s guidance along Tiepolos' frscoes had the "thumbs up" from both young and old generations. A very big thank you for Giulio Vortigara Valmarana, who made all possible!

Villa Valmarana, the home of Count Giustino Valmarana, is located in the hills just outside of Vicenza and was designed by Gianbattista Tiepolo. It can be reached on foot, but, we opted for the 8 euro taxi ride from the train station. An audio guide is available and helps describe the design and contents of each of the rooms of the main house and the adjacent pallazzina. The views of the surrounding hills are spectacular and were one of the highlights of the visit for me.

This was one of the loveliest visits to a villa we have ever made. We came for the art and architecture, of course. And they were wonderful. Seeing one building painted by Tiepolo dad and the other by Tiepolo son was very instructive regarding their personal styles. But most interesting turned out to be the connection of the various owners to this building and grounds. The paintings in each room of the villa illustrated the first owner's favorite books. The furnishings show how people could really live with these living walls. In the forestiera guest house, Tiepolo son created illustrations according to a different theme in each room, all fanciful. With the furnishings, you can see how guests could wake up in a Chinese fairy tale, a Gothic story or a fantastic journey to an exotic land of marvelously exotic characters.
Family photos, paintings, books and personal momentos, showing generations of real people living here add to the feel of a real home cherished and preserved with such care.
And for tourist needing lunch or a snack, the delightful outdoor terrace and normal-priced items made us feel like a Valmarana for a few moments.
One suggestion for those visiting on foot from the train station, as we were. We followed the road paralleling the tracks until we got to Borga Berga, then turned when the Villa signs directed us to. Better is to take the bike-pedestrian path behind Borgo Berga. It connects directly to the villa entrance road, via Tiepolo. The bike path starts where the viale risorgimento nazionale, Le Scalette and Borgo Berga meet.
One other suggestion - certainly walk 5 minutes down the road and visit the famous Palladian villa La Rotunda as well to round out the experience.

This is a relatively small property consisting of two villas with gorgeous gardens. The part of the gardens included in the entrance tickets is of limited size and does not take long to see.
Each room in the villas is frescoed in a different style, one nicer than the next. It was a pleasure to be able to enjoy non-religious art in Italy.
We took a taxi from the train station to this attraction and asked the security guard to call a taxi for us when we were ready to leave.

Experience true Italian culture, beauty and friendliness by staying here. Close to many great restaurants and day tripping to Verona, Sirmione, Marcostica, Bassona del Grappa and Venice. Great for larger groups. Grounds and elegance of architecture are amazing. Love all the frescos and family history you find here. I probably will never stay at a more beautiful and historic place.

Would you please share information as to days open, times, if advanced tickets are needed and other basic information? The US website is blocked as it states it is corrupt. Thank you.
Written 27 February 2017
Dear guest,
thanks for your request. We are checking what the problem is, waiting that the new website goes online.
Anyway the updated opening hours, since March 6th, will be:
every day from 10 am to 6 pm.
There is no need to buy tickets in advance, you can simply get on site and buy a ticket, which cost is of 10 €. There is additionally the chance to rent a Smartguide (a 7" multimedial tablet) on site, at a price of 2 €. It is English, with a detailed explanation of the history of the Villa and its frescoes.-
If you have any question, just feel free to ask.
All the best from Vicenza

Is it possible to visit Villa Valmarana ai Nani and Villa La Rotunda on the same day? We arrive by train and wonder what the cost is to take a taxi to see the villas. Can we get a cab at the villas back to town? Is there a bus we can take?
Written 27 December 2015
Dear guest,
I reply as owner of Villa Valmarana ai Nani. On our official website you find the opening times of the villa and the ways how to reach it.
I confirm the distance between Villa Valmarana ai Nani and Villa la Rotonda is less then 10 minutes by foot.
Our villa is open on Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 12.30 and from 2 pm to 4 pm during the winter time (it is something new we have added this winter). From March 8th, 2016, we will restart the summer opening times, it means every day except on Monday.
I remain at your disposal for further infos.
