This is the archetypal villa that brought the idea of the Pantheon in Rome to the scale of a family home. This building influenced Thomas Jefferson when he designed Monticello, his home, and the University of Virginia library. The setting is fantastic (especially during the...More

If you are in the Veneto, this dignified building outside Vicenza is worth a visit. It is situations on a low hill that seems to continually draw gentle breezes up from the valley below, a feature that the inhabitants must have appreciated during the hot...More

Beautiful villa design in the countryside. Try to go on Wednesday when the interior is open for touring. Perfect quick stop for architecture buffs.

After the train from Verona, finding our Hotel Cristina and having lunch, we needed some exercise. Beginning at our hotel, we walked southeast through Park Campo Marzo, then followed Viale Venezia to Palladio’s 1596 Arco delle Scalette(1.5km so far). Here we found the quiet bike...More

Even if you can’t go in, drive by. This was Jefferson’s inspiration and continues to influence architects today.

The important point here is to come at a time when you can visit the interior. Those times are very limited. When we visited they were only Wednesday and Saturday. Best to check their website, as there is a closing in the middle of the...More

After driving past this place for years, my husband and I finally stopped in to tour the interior. We were there on a Wednesday afternoon and it opened around 3pm. For 10 euros, you can explore inside the villa and its grounds. We enjoyed seeing...More

At €10 per person it is expensive considering a ticket for a similar price will get you into Teatro Olympico plus a number of other museums and palazzos in Vicenza. However it is a grand example of a Palladian Building. No photos inside is also...More

Magnificent example of Palladian architecture a bit out of the main tourist area, kind of interesting but only for about 15-20 min or so

Easy to get to from Vicenza - in fact we walked back to town. This is Palladio's masterpiece. On Saturdays you can view the interior - while the furnishings are more modern the interior plan is impressive. Walk around the villa and get a perspective...More
