- VadimMurmansk, Russia34,575 contributionsThe largest square in VeronaDuring the time of republican Rome, this place was outside the city walls. It was only in the first century A.D. that life began here with the construction of the amphitheater. And life is a market. At the same time, it was not an ordinary food market, but a market for hay, grain and wood. For many centuries, there was only an amphitheater and a new city wall around the perimeter of the square, of which only Portone della Bra and the pentagonal Torre Pentagon remained. The square began to acquire modern outlines with the construction of palaces. The neoclassical Barbieri Palace was built in 1836-48. The colorful multi-colored houses forming Liston Boulevard on the west side of Piazza Bra were built in the XV-XVIII centuries. The Palazzo della Gran Guardia, which was built for 200 years from the XVII to the XIX century, is now used as an exhibition center. Since the end of the 19th century, a green square has been laid out in the center of the square, which has a fountain, a monument to Vittorio Emanuel II and a public toilet. The square enlivens the square, but on the other hand makes it impossible to perceive it as a single ensemble.Visited June 2023Travelled soloWritten 28 April 2024
- Brown_SamanthaKennewick, Washington1,729 contributionsLargest piazza in Verona with numerous restaurants, bars, cafes and a small parkDuring the 3 nights we stayed in Verona, we walked by this piazza countless times. It is next to the Verona Arena, with beautiful colored buildings. We took in a couple of dinners here, always rely on reviews so we would find quality places. That strategy worked well as our dinners were excellent all the way around. We enjoyed the space of this piazza. Very grand. Walked across to enjoy the small park with a fountain and interesting statues. It is also near the old city wall. Great public space.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 July 2024

It is surrounded by colorful buildings that date from the 15th to 18th centuries, and well preserved Roman Walls. In the center there is a small garden with a fountain and statues. It is very near the Roman arena. Its many cafes and restaurants provide many choices for dining or just people watching.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 August 2024

This is the largest square in Verona and it's said to be also one of the largest in Italy. The highlight is of course the 2000-year old Verona Arena, the famous amphitheatre still holding opera events. It's a great place with a lot of nice buildings around the square among them the Town Hall (Palazzo Barbieri), The Gran Guardia and the Liston with rows of cafes and restaurants next to each other. However, the square feels a little too big to be personal. I prefer smaller more intimate squares integrated in the street scene. The square functions mostly as an arrival hall to the old town. Piazza Bra is a lovely place full of activity with many historical buildings, excellent restaurants and street cafes.

A very picturesque location with the iconic Arena and beautiful buildings, perfect for taking photographs. There looked to be a wide range of restaurants, but the best part was the green space in the centre. This was a lovely place to sit and enjoy a gelato, with plenty of benches. At the time there was a man playing a cello outside one of the restaurants, so it was very atmospheric and enjoyable to spend time here. Definitely recommend a visit here.

Piazza Bra, often shortened to Bra, is the largest piazza in Verona and one of the largest in whole country. Bra is lined with numerous cafés and restaurants, along with several notable buildings like Verona Arena, town hall or the Palazzo Barbieri. When I have entered this square I have felt great joy and excitement. You can feel history here and those all colours and great buildings make happy.

This is a huge area outside of the arena. There are numerous restaurants lined up, most with umbrellas/awnings for shade. When the opera is in season, you can walk around and look at the sets that will be installed. There is a nice green area, too. Catch the hop on/hop off bus here.

I go to Italy regularly for work, Verona is place I go back to with my wife for pleasure. I much prefer it to Rome; smaller, prettier, much cleaner, less tourists. Piazza Bra is the largest piazza and has the theatre in, with plenty of places to eat and drink, awesome for chilling and people watching.

When me and my friend came here we sat at a restaurant here for hours just watching the world go by. So relaxing with a couple glasses of red wine or a aperol spritz or two. Good choice of restaurants. Great spot to catch a bit of sun on a nice day!

Really nice piazza that’s is huge with lovely architecture buildings, park, water fountains and statues to just name a few things.
Arena is located in this Piazza creating a buzz and large amount of foot traffic so gets very busy,
Lots of varieties of restaurants to choose from I had lunch and dinner in the square a few times and enjoyed it.
Also in park area lots of park benches to sit down relax and enjoy the space. Would recommend visiting both day and night as they both have different atmosphere to them.

This is a great square and a must visit. There is a nice fountain in the center and a number of statues. It is bounded on one side by the historic arena. This is a must see. The first day we went was the best as later on they were putting up stalls for a wine festival.

Parcheggio piazza Cittadella o parcheggio Arena, entrambi grandi e vicini a Piazza Bra'.

Is it accessible from the station? We are planning to take a train from Venice to Verona...
Written 1 March 2015
You can take one of the city buses from the station to reach Piazza Bra. Tickets are just 1.30 euro if I remember correctly. Or you can walk maybe 15-20 mins through a somewhat boring landscape to get there.
