More authentic than Juliet's balcony this is worth looking up, it is close to the statue of Dante. We viewed free from outside. There are public toilets close by.

We accidentally came across this square while looking for a public toilet. The square was like a little escape from the crowded tours.

Note that the public toilet in that square; you have to pay if you want to use it. But you don't have to pay for entry in this square.

Not many people visit this square therefore making it a quiet hidden away spot to visit. The staircase as well as the buildings are beautiful to view.

Why is this building in striped stone? When was it built?
The clue is in this square and the very materials it is made from. The architecture is centuries old, but also has a modern feel to it. The story of Romeo and Juliet, star-crossed lovers is 13th century, yet also very modern and relevant to today. This courtyard draws 21st century people into the medieval past.
Enjoy the experience!

Walking around Verona these are the types of things you "happen upon".
Walk in the courtyard and behold.
If you have to walk slightly out of you way I think it's worth it.
Spend a few days here...Wonderful

The construction dates back to 1446, when the City Council decided to build an external staircase, accessible from the courtyard, at the foot of the Tower of the Lamberts to reach the main floor and restore prestige to the structure.: The building has Renaissance details, such as the female head and the relief round with the bust of a page and a heraldic shield – placed on the front of the staircase. Beautiful building to appreciate the detail of the time of construction.

Not crowded just steps away from the Piazza dei Signori. The colors of the walls are nicely done by the different stones. You can have some quiet minutes.
