The archaeological site is part of the Capitoline complex, the centre of which is the grand temple dedicated to the trinity of Roman gods: Juno, Jupiter and Minerva, the most important temple of the Roman city. Built over an area of over 60,000 sq. metres the temple was situated in the centre of a raised podium, 2 metres above the ground level, alongside the decumanus massimo. Free admission days: saturday 9 am -1 pm sunday 9 am - 1 pm Possibility of timetable changes, write to us to be sure of opening hours. During the free admission days a guided tour with an archaeologist can be requested at the time of your arrival. A voluntary contribution is required for the guided tour. When the site is closed a guided tour with an archaeologist can be booked for foreign visitors or groups in English and other languages.

We arrived in Verona by train from Peschiera DG and walked to the Corte Sgarzerie to see this small site. You are literally standing in a Roman Temple which also contains ruins from the 12th Century (which were built over them and collapsed).
This site is very small but it's free and is open 3 hours Sunday and Wednesday. If you're in the Piazza Delle Erbe then it's almost next door, a very interesting place.
The peace and quiet here, compared to the noise and crowds nearby, makes it a great break in the middle of Verona.

Features one of the best little movies I have ever seen about the history of the place. Gives you a good understanding of the rise and fall of the Roman days of Verona.

Our tour did not take us below ground, our guide pointed out various features that exist including an ancient pathway that is now displayed between the footpath and the adjacent wall. There are various glass inserts in the street that allow glimpses of the excavations beneath. I would have liked to see more.

Found under a bank while under construction, this roman gem exists. We entered as part of a tour and glad we did. I am into the old history of the world and this spot does not disappoint.

Anyone interested in the history of Verona should definitely visit this excavation!
There is no guided tour, but there is a very good video, admission is free, donations requested.
