There's a hidden treasure here. The San Pantalon looks simple from the outside. Most would pass this church unknowingly. But Fumiani dedicated 20 years of his life to paint the ceiling of this church during the Baroque period. It's especially memorable as the painting was...More

Meeting place for a walking tour . Guide took us in what looks like an unassuming church in a small square . What a surprise inside. The ceiling is not a fresco but an oil on canvas. It is enormous . Spectacular even though the...More

We popped in to get out of the rain. What a fantastic surprise! Small entrance fee, the ceiling and some of the other artworks are just like you’d see in the art galleries. Highly recommended!

The ceiling painting by Fumiari took 24 years. Claimed as the largest oil on canvas painting in the world - at 25m x 50m it may well be true. The painter, it is said, fell off the scaffold and died in 1704. Look for the...More

Early afternoon I am sitting looking up at the large oil-on-canvas painting in the world. It is on the ceiling of the Church of San Pantalon. There is art to be seen, Biblical and historical. I don’t think I have ever heard of Pantalon, a...More

The baroque canvas painting on the ceiling prolongs the walls of the church into heaven. Masterpiece of contra-reformation, totally unique!

We came here especially to see the amazing oil on canvas painted ceiling said to be the largest in the world depicting the life of St.Pantelon made by Gian Antonio Fumiani. You need to put 50cents and the ceiling lights up for a few minutes.

This was our first trip to Venice and we were staying in the Hotel Moresco, which is only a short walk from the San Pantaleone church. Because of limited opening hours, it took three attempts before I finally managed to go inside, but it was...More

Had it not been for our guide, Georgia from Friends in Venice, we would not have given this rather ordinary looking church a second glance. How glad we were that she took us in to look at it's ceiling. It is covered by the biggest...More

This church proves the saying "Don't judge a book by it's cove'" The stunning interior more than compensates the blank exterior. A definite must for all art lovers

Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with
street artists, students, painters, sculptors,
restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and
heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's
collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for
evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries
cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica
buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob

The church is open all day but avoid the times when church services are on. Have some change ready for the light machines. Enjoy!
