The Ceiling Painting is Extraordinary. I walked all the way from the San Lucia Train Station to see San Pantalon. It was worth it.

When we went in we thought it would be same as other churches. The frescos that cover the entire ceiling is darker then others but very beautiful.

A very unassuming outside facade but boy does the ceiling inside make up for it. It is the most stunningly beautiful work of art and a 'must visit' whilst in Venice. Do not miss!

The ceiling is spectacular. You will need coins to light it. The person inside will have coins. Be aware you can not take photos!!! They watch you like a hawk for it.

Was really excited to see this church and went out of my way to visit, but on arrival (even though free to enter) it was really hard to see the amazing paintings on the ceiling. It was daylight outside but maybe the paintings are due a restoration (like some of the others we visited). I could barely see up but... More

This church has the distinction I believe of bearing the largest continuous ceiling painting in the world. It is spectacular. Like most other catholic churches in Italy, there is no charge for entry, but women are compelled to cover their knees and shoulders in order to enter. I suggest just keeping a light shawl in the day-pack to wrap around... More

Uninspiring from outside, and seemed rather dark and dingy when I went in. However, within a few moments someone had put their 50c (I think) in the box, the lights came on and above me was the most spectacular ceiling. I just sat down and looked up at it in awe for several minutes. Evidently it was painted by a... More

This Cathedral is claims to have the worlds larges fresco (Roof Painting). Not sure if that is true, but the fresco is simply amazing to jus sit on the benches inside and view. you can jus keep staring at it, it's a masterpiece. There is no lights inside the cathedral, you will have to put a 50cent coin and it... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
